Heading to New Paltz August 25!!

Pet care experience

I have a tortoise named Benedict that I’ve had for about three years (basically a slow dog 😄) and a goldfish that I’ve had for over four years! I know, very old for a regular goldfish, which I believe shows off my ability to care for pets. My friend has TEN cats and one dog, which I have cared for by myself a couple of days at a time when they’ve went on vacation, but obviously I hang out with them and help care for them at least 1-2 times a week since they’re my friend. Ever since I was a child, I played with, walked, and checked on my neighbors dog. I volunteered at a pet store that had multiple animals, like puppies and newborn kittens, for over three years. I also have taken time to care and also just hang out with my uncle’s dog, since he’s gotten a puppy less than a year ago. ⛔️My parents will unfortunately not allow me to cross the Tappen Zee Bridge for clients I am so sorry! It is not my choice⛔️

Safety, trust & environment

I do not offer care at my own house because my mother is unfortunately allergic, so I will only be able to offer care at the client’s house. I rarely yell and will definitely not hit or touch your animal in any way that may harm them. I’m pretty good at reading animal’s emotions (scared, happy, nervous) since I have had experience and practice. Let me know if your dog is uncomfortable around other animals/people (if they’re nervous around people, maybe we can do a separate meeting where I slowly get to know them so they won’t be scared when I come to care for them) so I can react and treat them properly. Though I am short, I am a heavier girl, so pulling dogs will not bother me and maybe it is even something I can do research on to help solve. I am very slightly allergic to cats, so if you hear me sniffling, it’s just my allergies but of course you do not have to worry about me.

Information Sarah W. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know how comfortable they are around people and other animals, and maybe a brief description of their personality so I can get to know them before I come to meet you and your pet. If they have a certain schedule or other animal friends that they meet up with, it would be great to know. The breed doesn’t entirely matter because I believe that all dogs are good dogs and I will not be deterred by certain breeds. Of course, I’d like to know if your pet has any type of complications (like seizures, blindness, deafness, etc.) so I know how to handle them and keep them safe. If they have any fears too, just in case your pet gets a little messy and I have to pull out the vacuum, or if there’s a thunderstorm going on outside and I have to utilize headphones and a comfy blanket. I like to think of myself as a quick learner if there are any medications your dog takes, I’d just like to be shown beforehand so I don’t risk making any mistakes. It would also be good to know if you feed your dog any dog-safe human foods (of course, in very small amounts) or not, and if you know of any allergies.

A typical day

I would love to walk the dog around your neighborhood the first couple of times I walk them. After a couple of meetings/after the dog (or cat, if you’d like your cat walked ?) is comfortable with me, I’d love to take them to Rockland or Congers lake, or even the dog park at Congers lake if they’re comfortable with other dogs. For fun activities, it really depends on the animal since I know they all have their own unique personalities. For older/chill dogs, I can turn on some sensory videos for dogs or some music and just cuddle or sit with them. Sometimes I’ll roll a ball back and forth to the pet if they’re feeling a little more playful. A little embarrassing to say, but I’ve sang a couple of animals to sleep before if they were getting sleepy ?. For more energetic animals and if the client has a backyard, I’d love to run around with their pet and play fetch or tug of war or just explore outside. If the client doesn’t have a fenced in backyard, I can always play with their pet on a longer leash or take them for walks in some of the places I mentioned earlier. For rainy days, it’ll be a calmer type of play (and I have no problem playing in the rain or snow as long as you’re fine with me having to give your pet a good clean if they get dirty!). I can always roll the ball to not risk breaking anything or find an indoor place to run around with your pet. Again, of course all pets are different, so just contact me if you have any specific activities you’d like to incorporate or any questions!

I cannot currently accept any new clients because my schedule is packed with walks, work, and school :) I’m currently working part time at a library and also a college student, so I do have free time to help care for your pets! I marked down that I wouldn’t be able to work Thursdays, but that is just mostly during the day since I will be at school. I would be able to work sometime after 3:30 if needed. For the month of December, and it may change, but please contact me if you have any questions about scheduling, I am working every Monday (6-9) and Friday (3-5) and sometimes on the weekend but would still be fit in appointments. My school schedule is consistent Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9am-11am; 1pm-1:50pm, and Tuesday: 8am-9:15am
