Experienced home-working family, big secure garden

Pet care experience

My husband was brought up training and managing working dogs and is a responsible DBS checked Scout Leader who has owned many breeds. In the last 24 years, we've had our beautiful Tally (a Staffy), who we sadly lost at the grand age of 16.5 and currently have a Lurcher and Bedlington. For several years we lived on a farming estate, so are used to responsibly controlling dogs around livestock. Our children are 10 and 11 and have grown up with dogs, and as such we have a very safe family home where we regulary look after family and friends dogs. This includes a puppy and a very senior dog adopted from Belarus, who has experienced trauma, and mis-trusts most people. This latter dog we have to provide specific and careful care to, as she doesn't get along with other dogs. We have a large home where the dogs have free reign - although we are firm with the few rules we have, such as no licking faces and the kids not feeding them from the table! We just love dogs, and love getting to know their personalities and playing with them! We have the time, space, patience and fun-loving attitude towards our fur-friends and life, to take the very best care of your fur-babies and make them feel safe, comfortable and anxiety-free with us!

Sarah was amazing with our dog! Had very regular updates to see how he was doing and settling in with the other dogs. In all the pictures Sarah sent me, my dog looked like he was smiling. Will definitely send him to Sarah again! Very well looked after.

Thank you so much to Sarah and all the family for looking after Dylan for us. He was clearly really well taken care of just like in his own home and was a happy dog when I picked him up. Special thanks to Miya as you obviously gave him plenty of cuddles, just what he likes. Updates and photos were really good and helped us to relax on our holiday. Would highly recommend Sarah and her family. We will happily ask them to dogsit again for us.?

Safety, trust & environment

We have a very large secure garden with electric gates, dogs have independent access outside all day, including shady areas. Our one dog, Poppy, only likes outside water, so we always have bowls outside! Our old lurcher tends to sleep on our bed during the day, and our Bedlington Meg, plays with doggy-guests downstairs, where they have the run of 3 rooms. Theres a games room where the dogs have their own settee for quiet time! We adjust to the dogs needs, as you would with children! Sometimes the older ones want quiet space, others just want close comfort, and whilst I sit at my desk working, will often sit on my feet or lap!

Information Sarah S. would like to know about your pet

Their temperament, anything that makes them anxious? What are they afraid of - and where do they have their favourite tickle spots! Is there anything that might trigger anxiety or stress? Have they ever been attacked by a certain type of dog they're now cautious of? Where do they enjoy sleeping? What rules do you have for them, that we'll make sure we keep to?

A typical day

We usually 'rag' with toys, throw soft balls or hide treats whilst in the house. We live around the corner from a local beauty spot, and often treat the dogs to doggy biscuits from the cafe there. It's a dog-walkers dream - plenty of space to throw their ball and run around, there are also woods to have a good sniff and explore atound, including a muddy stream! We also do lots of walks on the lead along the local canal where there is plenty for them to sniff and keep engaged!

We both work from home, and do an early morning dog walk in local woods, as well as a teatime run with the kids over the fields! As the evenings grow longer we usually take the dogs for a run over the seawall, the canal or a large local park. Weekends we tend to go further afield especially as only 40 mins from a local beach and equally so to the mountains. I work downstairs so the dogs have independent direct access to the garden, as and when they want it
