Nova Law Grad Seeking WFH Pals 🐾

Pet care experience

Hey there! I'm Sarah- a fellow pet-parent living in Manayunk + looking to make new animal friends during my unplanned/much extended WFH experience! During my time in law school (2016 to 2019), I discovered Rover offered some of the best moral support out there, as many cats and dogs made all nighters, long study sessions, and finals far less stressful. Now, having graduated in 2019 and being placed in a remote capacity as of March of 2020, I am able to offer full-time care for pets once again! In return, all I ask is permission for your dog or cat to make an impromptu Zoom Court appearance & give other young attorneys (and judges alike) a laugh every once in awhile :) Currently, I am hoping to re establish several regular dog/cat visitors and am happy to work with any schedule to accommodate weekly/monthly/semi regular visits & walks, or even last minute emergency pet care, for those in need. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss short or long term care options, or have any questions about booking your pet’s stay with me! For those interested in more personal background, here’s a little more info about me: - in my 28 years, I have never met an animal I did not immediately like more than most people. kidding, but not really ;) - During my childhood, our family had several dogs: Murphy, an Australian shepherd; Hogan, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever; Sadie Mae, a Wheaten Terrier; Cosmo (Kramer), a Wheaten Terrier, and Baxter, a black lab. Sadie set the record for longest life, almost living to be 17, shortly followed by Baxter, who recently passed before his 16th birthday. - Once I moved to my first house/started law school in 2016, I adopted my cat, Machiavelli. As luck would have it, owning dogs my whole life did not prepare me for training a cat, and I accidentally (albeit conveniently) trained Machi to be a social boy who adores all animals and people alike. Two years later, I adopted my second cat Kipling, who modeled his behavior after his older brother. Both Machi and Kip were abandoned in a dumpster in North & Northeast Philly, were quite sick when I brought them home, and have grown up happy & healthy! The experience of adopting them spurred my interest in making extra time to volunteer and spread awareness for smaller, non-kill shelters in the Philadelphia area. - Having an undergraduate degree in Biology & formerly considering med school, It’s likely I will eventually go to Vet school. It is a passion of mine to care for older, disabled, “difficult”, and misunderstood animals. - Aside from dogs and cats, I have always loved reptiles, including turtles, snakes, and toads, which I would find outside and beg my parents to keep as “temporary pets” for a week or so during childhood. - While I don’t discriminate, my favorite dog breeds are Bassett Hounds, Boxers/Bulldogs, St. Bernard, & Schnauzers. Fortunately, I am able to accommodate both large and small pets and enjoy meeting new-to-me and familiar breeds. For those interested in more details on where your pet will be staying: - I have a big, open layout, 2 bedroom apartment. My building has a fenced, rooftop deck with plenty of space for your pet to join me on days I do some of my work outside. - Outside, there is a fenced, grassy dog park owned by my landlord, and I am located: 2 minutes from the tow path, 5 mins from Pretzel Park, 10 mins from Gorgas Park/Roxy High. - Machi is extremely friendly, plays fetch, and loves hanging out with dogs and cats alike- he'll even join us for walks when the weather's nice. Kipling will teach even the most stubborn dogs to like cats, and tends to snuggle away any separation anxiety your pet may feel. - Despite the above, Machi & Kipling are both used to the occasional time where they need to stay in my office or bedroom away from a dog visitor, if that is the owner’s preference. Any sleeping arrangement that you require works for us, just ask! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to read a bit about me and our home, and hope you will consider booking your pet’s next stay with me. Hoping to hear from you soon !

My dog was so happy staying with this wonderful couple! This was the first time we ever left him with anyone else as he was still less than a year old. He was so happy and well taken care of. Sarah was so good about sending pictures and took care of our dog like he was her own. Thank you guys so much for being able to take him on such short notice and treating him like part of the family!

Sarah was amazing with our little guy! She was very easy to communicate and schedule with ahead of time, and her home is located conveniently right off of Main Street in Manayunk. I was nervous about leaving for the weekend because our pup is sometimes apprehensive of new people, but Sarah sent us pictures and updates throughout his stay, which was very reassuring. He looked right at home and when I picked up, he didn't want to leave! I will definitely be asking Sarah to dog sit again!

I have a spare bedroom/home office, where your pet may stay to sleep if they prefer to stay away from my pets. Otherwise, your pet is treated like family, can happily roam about the apartment, play with the cats, nap on furniture, or just hang out. The dog park outside makes it very easy to take frequent breaks during the work day. If your dog needs extra potty breaks, exercise/walks (standard is half hour AM/half hour after dinner), or tends to feel anxious in new places, just notify me of any behaviors to look out for.

Information Sarah P. would like to know about your pet

PRIOR TO VISITS: I am used to all different pet personalities, so there is no pressure to write great detail about your pet ahead of time. While it’s not necessary, I’m happy to have you and your pet visit a few days prior to their scheduled stay (or visit your home, if you’re requesting house sitting and want to provide detailed instructions on advance). Ideally, please include this in your initial request so I can make sure to coordinate with other pet owners/visitors (I’ve found it can get a bit complicated contacting owners after a visit has begun to check if their cat or dog is OK in unfamiliar place with new visitors). I am always willing to accommodate multiple families & visits that may overlap - in order to avoid delays and a lot of back and forth, please include as much info as possible in your initial request. Feel free to go beyond what your pet’s profile answers on “gets along with dogs/cats”, even if you are totally unsure of the answer! As I’ve noted throughout, my apartment allows me to adjust to many situations and temperaments. Do not be shy if your cat or dog does not have experience with cats or if you feel there would be potential conflict. I have never turned down a visit over this info, so the more honest you are the better. I will prep accordingly if my pets need to be kept in my bedroom at night or at all times. If possible, please let me know whether you are bringing a crate or bed (I recommend pet beds or a blanket every time!) so I can move any furniture in advance and we can find out the best way to keep your pet comfortable! Other than that, it is helpful to know whether your pet is friendly on a leash or keeps to him or herself, so I can adjust the walks and take them to less crowded areas if needed. Even if your pet is used to being home alone for a few or many hours at a time, I try to take them out to eat with me and sit in the outdoor section. If your pet is not used to this or you’d prefer they stay home, just let me know when you drop them off. Last but certainly not least, does your pet consent to joining the 90% cat & dog glamour shot collection that is my iPhone camera roll? ??

A typical day

Since I live so close Main Street, I love to take dogs on walks all throughout Manayunk! One of my favorite places to go is the church behind my apartment building, as it is fenced and dogs are allowed off-leash. Many dogs who visit enjoy hanging out on the roof, where they have a great view of nearly all of Manayunk. My location on the hill & height of my building offers amazing views all the way to center city - my cats and visiting pets always enjoy people/pet-watching & sunbathing.

Availability

CURRENT SCHEDULE: available full-time + able to take last minute bookings as needed, both week days and weekends. Since I work remotely, drop off/pick up times can be estimates, but I understand plans change & travel is unpredictable. As a general rule, as long as we have the date itself booked, your pet can come/go as many hours earlier/later than times originally requested. If there is an update or change, I’m happy to take texts or calls any time while your pet is visiting :)
