Pet care experience
I was raised in a home with pets and have been a loving owner and care provider for multiple cats since I was 14 years old. I have taken care of others' dogs and cats since I was in high school. Neighbors, friends and family have relied on me to walk, feed and stay with their pets while they traveled out of town. I have also had the opportunity to work as an animal care technician at Anderson Humane in South Elgin. My responsibilities were to provide puppies, kittens, dogs and cats with living spaces, toys and bedding that were clean and sanitized; provide opportunities for daily exercise and/or walks; mentally engage dogs and puppies with challenging toys and puzzles; socialize animals by hanging out with them; and assist in training new volunteers and staff. I have also had the opportunity to work with animal behavior specialists to learn what causes certain types of behavior and what factors can prompt behavior change.

I can safely administer medications (pills, insulin shots) and I'm familiar with safe practices when caring for timid or anxious pets.

I prefer to meet new clients prior to providing services. Please let me know if your dog or cat has any special needs or behaviors that I can account for (ie., allergies, separation anxiety, possession aggression). If you are a cat owner, it is very helpful to know about your cat's favorite hiding/napping places before I arrive.
A typical day
Your dog and I will spend lots of time playing outdoors in the yard and taking walks. I'd love to also mentally engage your dog with any challenging toys, food puzzles and/or peanut butter kongs you have to help keep them from getting bored in your absence. If you have a cat that needs entertainment, we'll spend time playing with various puzzle toys, cat wands and teasers.

Availability
I currently work full-time as a teacher. At this time, I'm only available for house sitting on weekends and holiday breaks. I can provide drop-in and walking services between 6:00am and 12:00pm on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I will have more availability during the months of June and July, as I do not teacher during the summer.
