I’ll love your pup like it's my own

Pet care experience

Dogs are my favorite animals and, simply put, I don’t have enough dogs in my life! I grew up taking care of the family dog--a perpetual barker but lovable springer spaniel--and learned through that experience how to train dogs, care for their needs, and manage any situation both in the home and out in a foreign environment. I have experience with high energy dogs, older dogs, nervous/anxiety dogs, and puppies. HOUSE SITTING I'd love to watch your pup while you're away! Most dogs are familiar with an everyday routine (as am I) and I understand the importance in keeping as close as possible to what they're used to while you are away. Your pup will have a great and relaxed time, with lots of cuddling, belly scratches, walks/outside time (especially in the warmer months), and love. I am used to doting on the family pups, and that will be no different with yours! Most importantly, I’m aware that every dog has different needs and am flexible in order to meet their individual demands. Along with caring for your pets, I always try to leave your home cleaner than when I arrived and can get the mail, move packages inside, shovel (when necessary), water your plants, and ensure your house stays in tip-top shape while you are away. WALKING / DROP-INS If your dog is particularly high-energy and you're looking for a regular walker to tucker him/her out, I'm happy to set up a regular day/time to bring your dog on a longer walk or hike (and even in the winter, too!). I'm an active person who enjoys having a furry companion by her side when exploring! If you are interested in this, we can discuss custom pricing. Or, if you have a late day where you aren't able to let your pup out or feed him/her, I'm your girl to make sure their needs are met. A NOTE ON AVAILABILITY I do work a full-time job during the week (designing and typesetting books!) from about 7:30-4. This company is located near West End in St. Louis Park, so I'm never more than a 10-15 minute drive away from anywhere in Minneapolis. That being said, I can only commit to a max of two drop-ins or walks per day during the work week, and (if house sitting) there are days when I would not be able to let your dog out for close to 8.5 hours. I do not schedule drop-ins/walks while I am house sitting. If your dog has particular needs where a long day would be an issue, let's discuss! I'm happy to work something out based on what they're used to.

We had no worries knowing our dogs were able to stay home and be together. Sarah sent updates, pics, and didn’t hesitate asking questions when she had them. It was easy and well worth it.

Sarah is WONDERFUL!!! My little Alice had a tough start, she’s extremely cautious and has a bit of anxiety. Sarah is so kind and willing to do whatever it takes to build a trusting relationship with Alice. Alice is always in a terrific mood when I get home after her time with Sarah. It’s fantastic! Alice and I are beyond thankful!!!

I highly recommend Sarah for the great job she did with two challenging puppies - one with tons of energy and another with severe separation anxiety. She sent lots of pictures and updates and asked questions as they came up, which really made being away from them feel better!

Information Sarah M. would like to know about your pet

Knowing the energy level of your dog is important, so I’m prepared with activities if needed and the right expectations. Along those lines, letting me know if your dog has any special needs--like not getting along well with other dogs or being particularly afraid of being in a new place--is also important. I welcome all breeds.

A typical day

I'm happy taking your dog around the neighborhood or venturing a bit further to places like Lake Calhoun or Lake Harriet. I love taking my own family dogs to experience new scenes and can take your dog for a long walk or hike--if they're a pup that would enjoy this. If you would allow a longer walk or hike, I always go prepared with treats, a water dish, and at least 1 liter of water (but usually more like 2-3) to ensure your pup stays hydrated. I also realize that every dog is different and am happy to stick close to home and play with your pup in an environment that's comfortable for them, if they're a nervous pup or just one for taking it easy.
