Lead Dog Volunteer for WCAC

Pet care experience

Hello! First and foremost, I love dogs of all breeds and sizes. They bring me so much joy, and I will care for your furry child as I do my own! I have been a lead volunteer at Williamson Co. Animal Center for over a year and work full-time during the week in the healthcare industry. (Don’t worry! I have 3 Arlo cameras to check in on you’re pups while I’m at work.) My volunteer experience has helped me learn more about dogs than I could’ve ever hoped. When caring for your pet, I will think of things like the external temperature, and the pads of their paws on potentially hot pavement. I know how to safely and efficiently break it up without risking injury to myself. I have experience taking pets to emergency vets, unfortunately, but I can remain calm in these situations. I know what foods generally are / aren't safe for dogs and how to properly administer medication. Most importantly, I know to effectively read a dog's body language and important signals they may be sending. In addition, I grew up with a dachshund and border collie, have a mutt of my own, and I love helping dogs get adopted from the shelter - especially those whose chances may be lower. I would love to walk or keep your dog. I have experience with all breeds and sizes including large breeds. I have received formal training and promise to treat your dog and home as I do my own. I have a Master's degree, work full-time, don't smoke, and I have no background record of any kind. I walk dogs for Williamson County roughly 5 hours per week currently. I am formally trained in proper prong collar usage and harnesses, so if you walk your dog on a prong or harness, I'm happy to do so. Otherwise, I'll use the leash you provide.

I have been volunteering with Sarah at the animal shelter for about a year now. Sarah is so good with the dogs, and she was promoted to Lead Volunteer very quickly. Sarah is not afraid to work with challenging dogs and is a great leader for the dogs. Sarah has great leash skills and can manage even the toughest, most misbehaved doggos out there! And to top it all off, Sarah is just a really great person overall! She’s incredibly nice, considerate and trustworthy, and I would have her keep my dog anytime!

Sarah is terrific! I’ve volunteered with her for a year or so at the Williamson Co. Animal Center in Franklin, TN. She’s always concerned about the care, well-being and safety of the shelter’s adoptable pooches. And I would trust her to walk our personal dogs, if that tells you anything. She’ll be great at this job!

Sarah is outstanding with dogs. We both volunteer walking dogs at Williamson County Animal Center. She is very kind and so patient with all of the dogs. Any family would be lucky to have Sarah take care of their fur babies. ??

Information Sarah H. would like to know about your pet

In general, I keep dogs 10 feet apart from each other, but I would like to know in advance if your dog doesn't like other dogs to be extra cautious, if needed. Similarly, I'd like to know about any medications or medical conditions your dog may need or have as well as any fears (thunder, car rides, etc.). Finally, I'd love to know some of their favorite things to do. I love to meet dogs where they are to help them feel as comfortable as possible. I have no breed preferences. I am comfortable with all dogs and have worked with all breeds.

A typical day

Depending on the owner's and dog's comfortability with car rides, I am happy to walk dogs at a local park or throw balls them in my 0.5 acre fenced yard. I also have 3 Arlo cameras to check on your babies when I can’t be home. I will ensure your pup gets a treat (with owner's permission of course!).
