Work at home; large fenced-in yard!

Pet care experience

I am a Master’s student studying Anthropology with a concentration in Primatology. I have a very flexible schedule and a very active lifestyle! When I was eight years old I made fliers that I passed around in my childhood neighborhood, and before long I had 15 regular pet sitting clients! Since then I have cared for the pets of many friends and family members, and have also gained clients through word-of-mouth. I move from Raleigh to Charlotte in August and would love to be able to build a client base so that I can pet sit again! I have extensive experience with dog behavior, and have fostered 45 dogs over the course of 4 years, helping them to find permanent adoptive homes. While fostering, I not only provided daily care but also specialized medical care and attention as well as a variety of training including basic commands, leash training, house training, and crate training. I have fostered dogs of all ages ranging from a two week old litter of puppies to geriatric dogs. I have also provided care for dogs who have been physically or emotionally neglected or abused. I have experience working with exotic animals as well. I worked at the Duke Lemur Center as a Husbandry Intern and as a Technician‘s Assistant for several years. I have taken courses in ethology (animal behavior), primate behavior, behavioral statistics, and human-animal disease transfer. I have also worked as sitter for a macaw, sugar gliders, and horses!

Sarah is the bizz-nezzz! Having my pup stay at her casa was nothing short of the comfort of home. I regret to say that I think he gets more attention at her place. Sarah has a kind spirit and is very attentive to my concerns. He's actually going back tomorrow! A1 pet sitter!!

She was wonderful! She has a beautiful house with a playful loving pup. She kept my updated and took such good care of my sweet dog while I was away for a week.

This was the first time since I got Sprout at 4 weeks old that I'd ever been away from her, and I had to go all the way to the west coast. She was SO happy there! She had an immediate pal in her dog, and when I picked her up she was happy and well-adjusted. I had a video within minutes of leaving and she was already playing and wagging her tail.

Highly recommend Sarah! She’s so sweet, sent pictures and made sure my dog was taken care of! Definitely using her again!

Information Sarah D. would like to know about your pet

I require that the dogs who stay at my house are up to date on all vaccines including Bordatella and DHLPP (Parvovirus, distemper, parinfluenza), and are free of fleas and intestinal parasites. I would also like to know your pup’s feeding schedule, exercise routine, behavioral quirks, special needs, any concerns you may have, as well as where they prefer to sleep. I know that dog owners knows their dogs better than anyone else, so your concerns are of top priority to me. I would like to treat people’s pets with the same care and specialized attention that I give my own dog.

A typical day

I’m fortunate to live in an area that is great for dog walking! I love to go on walks (and hikes for more energetic breeds), play in the yard, walk to pet-friendly breweries and restaurants, visit pet friendly stores like Petco and Home Depot, and nothing beats giving behind the ear scratches and cuddling after a long day of playing! I also enjoy trips to the dog bar and dog park with my German Shepherd. We especially love Barkingham Park and the surrounding trails. I will adapt my daily plan to fit the needs of the dogs I watch- I recognize that some dogs are nervous in public and some are overwhelmed by multiple dogs, and my ultimate goal is for my furry clients to feel happy and safe.
