I have always loved animals, but my recent meeting with a beautiful Belgian Malinois really accelerated this love. I was on holiday in Morocco when my cousin brought home this adorable puppy. She was three weeks old, had been living on a farm, was covered in ticks and malnourished. Unfortunately, Bambi’s mother (I named her Bambi) killed one of her babies and so the rest of her litter were taken away. When I first met Bambi, I absolutely fell in love with her. She was the most adorable thing I had ever seen. So small and precious. I decided I wanted to keep Bambi and took on mothering duties the best I could. For a puppy so young, she needed the right care. After extensive research concerning welfare of an animal so young, I knew what I needed to do. I stayed up with her in the night to feed her and comfort her, I played with her, I patted her bottom with wet cotton balls after she went to the toilet, I burped her, and I spent all my time with her. Coming back to England was one of the hardest things I had to do. My family in Morocco are now looking after her for me, but I am currently in the process of completing the paperwork to get her to England. It’s been difficult, but fingers crossed, we just need to wait three months, and then hopefully we can book her flights to come home. It’s important for me to highlight to you that I love animals with all my heart, and that I will excel at this job because looking after animals is at the heart of it. Bambi has changed my life. I’m now a vegetarian, hoping to transition to veganism one day, and I have a small tattoo of Bambi of my arm to symbolise how much she has changed me and how much she means to me.
