Experenced Animal Cargiver

Pet care experience

When I was seven years old I moved to my grandmother’s farm in northern California, where my family grew fruit and bred chickens. Besides living on a farm, the best part about this move was living next door to Miranda’s Animal Rescue. I spent a good portion of my free time volunteering there, and the trainers taught me how to properly walk, play with, feed, groom, rehabilitate (from medical care to challenging temperaments to negative past environments) and clean up after animals of all sizes, backgrounds and species. Let me tell you, I have walked much more than just your standard dog and cat! In short, I have a diverse background with animals from all walks of life. I make an amazing dog treat (as evidenced by the drooling mouths that come back for more) and I am able to perform basic grooming tasks such as baths, nail clipping and ear cleaning. Dogs, in particular, have always been a big part of my life. In fact, our first family dog was adopted two weeks after I was born, a Shih-Tzu-Pekingese mix named Anubis who lived until he was 20 years old! I heard we often slept, played and ate together as babies, and I consider him my brother as we truly grew up together. I am an absolute professional when it comes to pet-sitting and I can provide references to back up this claim! As a lifelong learner with a student mindset, I am currently researching a few animal care certificate programs right now, as it’s my outlook that you can never stop learning. Besides education, I already have a lifetime of experience caring for all types of breeds, temperaments and sizes, and am fully capable to handle any animal challenge that comes my way. I listen to my clients, whether they have fur or not! I first learn as much as possible about the pup from the owner, especially if they have any special needs or requests. I then get to know the dog and gain their trust. I’ve found that this is only accomplished through listening, learning and loving, and in that order! Finally, my other job has extremely flexible hours and I am often able to work from home. This means I can be available whenever you need me!

Sarah was wonderful and was able to stop by and meet my pups on such short notice. She was on time and took care of my new pup (potty, food, water & some lovin) while I was busy for a few days. Definitely will be contacting her again. Thank you Sarah!

Sarah was patient and wonderful. She took the time to come over and meet and get to know Atticus beforehand to really solidify the comfort he would would feel upon her walking in to walk him. After a bit of a rocky start on his end for their first walk, they found a groove. Sarah was communicative with me and above all kind. I will absolutely be calling her in the future.

Sarah was a great drop-in sitter for our pups. We had to leave town last minute and although my brother/roommate would be home, he works 12 hour days and I knew we'd be in a crappy situation if the pups didn't get their mid day walk (pun intended). Sarah was super friendly (obviously a dog lover) and even offered to take them to the dog park or other activities beyond the standard walk around the block. It's a bit weird having someone come in to your home while you're not there, but Sarah's professional, upfront and honest demeanor set our worries at ease. I'm glad to know she's available should the situation arise again in the future.

Information Sarah A. would like to know about your pet

Is your dog comfortable around other dogs and people? - Do they have any medical conditions and do I need to administer medication? - Where are your dog’s medical records? - What vet do you visit? - Do you have an up-to-date photo of your pet on Rover? - Are there any quirks I should be aware of (i.e., don’t touch the pup in certain spots, gets nervous with loud noises, chews toddler toys, etc.) - Does your pup have any allergies?

A typical day

I believe in positive reinforcement and open communication, and employ both of these things in my pet-sitting business. Overall, I try to find activities the dog enjoys and then let them show me how to play—and not the other way around! If they are high energy, we spend a majority of our time outside walking or at the dog park. With the older pups, I have been known to pull their dog bed outside in the shade on a sunny day so they can enjoy the fresh air too. While I don’t offer pet-boarding at my home at this time, I am open for house sitting and pet-walking in your home and neighborhood. Send me a message, I’m looking forward to meeting you and your pup!
