11 years professional experience!

Pet care experience

I have been working with dogs and cats professionally since May of 2012 through a dog daycare located in Portland, ME with my primary focus on dog walking. I have walking and pet sitting experience with all ages of dogs and have a soft spot for seniors. In addition, I have a year and a half of basic dog training experience, which also included working with reactive and anxious dogs. I am fluent in dog body language! Subcutaneous injections are also a part of my skill set, as I used to have a diabetic cat that needed insulin injections twice daily and a client that needed Adequan injections twice a week.

I am so grateful to have found Sara. My dog has separation anxiety, which really puts a damper on our ability to get out and do things. Sara took time to do a meet-and-greet to find out about Muppet, let him check out the place, meet her other pets, etc. I could tell right away she had a heart for pets, and we were both comfortable with her right away. Muppet had his first stay with Sara while my husband and I had a Saturday out. Muppet was calm and happy when I picked him up, and I could tell he had a nice, stress-free time and was well looked after. Sara was also kind enough to take and share a few pics from Muppet's visit. I feel totally confident leaving Muppet in Sara's caring and capable hands, and I'm so happy to have found someone so close to us in Standish.

Our very nervous Henry had a wonderful weekend with Sara. She’s very knowledgeable about anxiety in dogs and made him feel safe and cozy. Excellent communication, too! Highly recommend. Henry would love to come again soon. Thanks Sara!!

Sara's passion for animals will be apparent as soon as you meet her. Her many years of experience taking care of animals will make you feel confident and secure that your furbaby is in good hands. She takes the time to get to know your pet and with her years of experience she knows how to handle any situations that may arise. I had surgery and was unable to take care of my dog's basic needs (feeding, walks, giving him medications, taking him to the vet, etc.) and Sara stepped in and was able to do all those things for him. He was immediately attached to Sara because she truly treats every animal as if they're one of her own.

When caring for dogs in my home, they have constant supervision and are free to roam the living space. This is ideal for dogs with separation anxiety! I will do all walks, outdoor playtimes, and potty breaks on leash, as often as they need. If the dog likes, they will sleep in bed with me, my senior puggle, and a friendly cat!

Please let me know if your dog is reactive and what their triggers are, if they have any guarding behaviors (water or food bowl, toys, etc), medical conditions, allergies, severe separation anxiety (just so I know not to leave their side to take out the trash or something!) or are showing signs of illness.

A typical day

Walks around the property or down the street if approved by parent, enrichment activities like puzzle toys or snuffle mats, and fetch or playtime with toys (if they enjoy that).
