Sandy in Little Italy: 1-on-1 Care

Pet care experience

***March 2024: I am back on Rover, after taking a long break from it. Looking forward to caring for local dogs again!*** I love dogs -- and dogs love me! Luckily, I work from home (even before Covid), and so, when I dog sit for friends and clients, I am physically with the the dogs nearly at all times. While caring for dogs, I severely limit my errands outside of the house and am home 24/7. It's ok -- there's so much to do at home anyway, especially with a doggo by my side. I've been dog-sitting for friends since 2014, and I LOVE it! I have so much love to give my furry buddies, and I have no problem showing affection through regular pats, cuddles, and I-love-you's. I also like to sing made-up songs to the dogs I sit, and I take photos and video clips multiple times a day to share with their humans. I am an extremely cautious person. Your dog's safety is number one, *always*. I will not let your dog off the leash, ever. I will not tie your dog up to a public post and walk away, ever. I will have your dog's well-being squarely in mind at all times. My eyes are on the dogs and the area ahead of us whenever I walk them, to ensure there are no threats nearby (i.e. chicken bones on the ground they may attempt to eat, or a larger dog coming towards us). I hope you don't mind that I don't allow other dogs that are larger than yours to interact with your dog, for their safety and security. I will never accept a dog booking without first meeting with you and your dog in my apartment. It is very important that you and your dog feel safe in my place, and that I can assess whether or not it will be a good fit. I have experience watching border collies, boston terriers, chihuahuas, chinese crested, english and french bulldogs, goldendoodles, havanese, huskies, labrador retrievers, lhasapoos, pomeranians, and shih tzus. I prefer to watch one dog at a time so that s/he gets the ultimate care. I have an established career in music, and so I'm either away for a while, or I'm at home being a domestic goddess to myself. And when I'm at home is when I'm more than happy to be a dog-Aunty, since I'm able to give them my full attention. (I don't go out much these days!) I live on the second floor of a house (note: hardwood steps) on one of the city's most iconic streets. The apartment is large, clean, bright, and comfortable. Everyone who comes over marvels at the space, which I take great care of. I live a 5-10 minute walk away from Bellwoods and Alexandra Parks, and a 15-20 minute walk away from Bickford and Christie Pitts Parks. Lots of outdoor spaces for your dog to explore with me! I love going on walks with dogs and watching people's faces light up as your baby saunters by. (Don't worry, I'm also looking at the dog and at the ground, looking for anything they might try to eat. I have experience walking garbage-loving dogs and ensuring they don't follow through with their devious plans.) When boarding, I will walk your dog for a minimum of 3 times a day for anywhere between 30-60 minutes each, sometimes more. Your dog will be free to roam the entire apartment, including on the furniture. I hope your dog isn't camera shy, because I'm not going to be able to resist taking pictures and videos! Thank you for reading! Let me know if you have any questions!

Sandy is an amazing person to take care of your dog, you can see her love for dogs. And she is very understanding how dogs and their behaviours could be different. She sends you photos and gives you updates all the time. Really good in communication. I truly appreciate all her efforts in taking good care of my baby. She is awesome!

Sandy was a wonderful sitter for our dog, Chip! She sent us many photos of him enjoying himself and always responded quickly. She was super helpful with our whole experience and made sure we felt at ease as well as Chip. Chip was also so excited when he went to meet her after their initial meeting, so I knew they would have a great time and he would be very happy. Would definitely use her again!

Safety, trust & environment

As the daughter of a housekeeper, I keep a very clean home, so there's next to no chance of a dog ingesting something s/he shouldn't be. I am an extremely cautious person. Your dog's safety is number one, *always*. I will not let your dog off the leash, ever. I will not tie your dog up to a public post and walk away, ever. Information Sandy M. would like to know about your pet

I prefer to care for small dogs, mainly because my apartment isn't very big. I also like to carry the dogs up and down the steps, as the steps are wood (a little bit slippery).

A typical day

I go to Bellwoods park at least once a day when I'm caring for a dog. For other walks, I'll go to Alexandra Park or Christie Pitts, and/or roam the side streets of Little Italy, Harbord Village, and The Annex. In warmer months, I'll sometimes take a dog on a long walk down to the waterfront. I'm sorry that I can't take your dog off leash, but that's because I am caring for their safety!

I work from home so, when I care for dogs, they are with me morning, noon, and night. I have a lot of flexibility in time, so I can take a walk at practically any time. If I'm running errands to the bank or post office, or visiting a friend's house, I will bring the dog with me. If I could bring a dog everywhere, I would!
