Pet care experience
Hi there, welcome to my page! My name is Sam and I am an experienced pet sitter and dog walker who has recently moved from Toronto, Ontario to beautiful British Columbia. I have been part of the Rover community for over 4 years now, and am looking for new clients in and around the Greater Vancouver Area as I make this transition. I am a top-rated sitter on Rover (check out my ratings and reviews!) and can provide references from all my past Ontario clients if you'd like to hear more about their experiences with me. I'm ideally looking for regular dog walking clients to fill the doggie-shaped gap in my schedule (and heart) from the four dogs I walk weekly in Toronto. I also provide drop-in services for your dogs and/or cats while you're away! I'm an all-around animal lover, so rest assured that your fur baby will be in excellent hands when they're in my care. A little about me: A few years back, I lost my dog after the best 16 years of my life. Now I want to pass on the love to you and yours! I have a flexible schedule and exclusively work from home, therefore being able to give your dog or cat all the attention they deserve. I also love taking studio-quality photos of animals, and any photos I take of your pet while they're in my care are sent to you, free of charge! You can see some of the photos I've taken in the past if you scroll through some of the photos on this profile page. I currently have a 6 y.o. Labradoodle named Riff who I can bring along for walks upon your request. What I would like to know about your dog: - What a typical day looks like (i.e., when do feedings occur? When and how many walks do you take a day?). - Likes and dislikes (i.e., are they sensitive to things like loud noises? Are they reactive to things like birds and squirrels?). - Any do's and don'ts for walks, and any commands you're working on that you'd like me to follow (i.e., do make the dog sit at all intersections before crossing; don't allow the dog to pull towards other dogs; use the 'leave it' command to make sure the dog doesn't pick up unwanted items, and the 'drop-it' command to instruct the dog to put down any item they are carrying). - Whether they play well with other humans and dogs. - Whether your dog has any allergies. - Emergency information, just in case - it's better safe than sorry! *Please note that for dog walks, I will not take them to an off-leash park or area until your dog and I have created a rapport, and I am fully comfortable with understanding their behaviours, mannerisms, and recall. If this is something you are interested in, please let me know and on our first meeting, I can do an assessment to test obedience to commands, recall, and how your dog responds to me. What I would like to know about your cat: - How do they react to a new/unfamiliar person in their space? (i.e., do they hide and prefer not to be bothered? Or will curiosity get the better of them?). - Are they free fed with dry kibble, or do they have specific times for feeding and types of food? (i.e., free fed dry kibble all day but also given half a can of Fancy Feast wet food at night). - How to tidy up the litter (i.e., do you have a litter robot that I need to empty the waste from once a week? Or do you have a litter genie that you'd like me to scoop the litter into?). - Whether you'd like me to give your cat treats, a brushing, or just playtime and snuggles (i.e. What are their favourite toys? Do they like cat teasers?). *I have experience testing blood sugar levels for cats and providing insulin injections. If this is something your cat requires, please let me know and we can discuss your cat's needs further. What to expect when booking with me: - Lots of love and attention! Young or old, cheek scratches, belly rubs, or just cuddles all day - your fur baby will get all the love I have to offer! - Ample exercise! With my extremely flexible work schedule, I'm able to go on walks with your dog almost any time of day and for long (or short) periods of time - whatever they prefer! - Daily updates and pictures! I like to keep pet parents up-to-date with our daily happenings and adventures with photos and videos. That way, you'll feel like you're there too!
Reviews
Great communication! She is very sweet and caring. We are calling her again for our next vacation!
Sam was really warm and friendly and most importantly great with my cat! It was my first time using rover so I felt a bit nervous about the process and having someone come into my home for drop in-visits. With Sam’s great communication and photo/video dumps every visit I knew I had nothing to worry about! Would definitely recommend :)
Sam was amazing!!! She was so accommodating, easy to communicate with and great with our pup, Kona. Highly, highly recommend Sam and would 100% have her care for Kona again.
5+++ stars, we highly recommend Sam! Our golden Murphy loved walking with her. From the very first contact, Sam was kind, flexible and very accommodating to our needs. She asked great questions, very knowledgeable, considerate and great at communications during our week of walks. Thanks Sam for taking Murphy on great walks while we were away!

Safety, trust & environment
My goal is to build a rapport with your pet and learn their behaviors, mannerisms, and their likes/dislikes. Building a foundation of trust is paramount to me. If I am in your home, my goal is to make sure that your pet feels safe and secure despite you being away.
Information Samantha L. would like to know about your pet
I have experience with dogs and cats of all ages, and also have experience giving both oral and injection medication. If your dog or cat has any special needs, please don't hesitate to let me know! I'd also love to know any funny quirks that your fur baby has - because that's what makes them special and unique!
A typical day
For dog walks: We'll start by getting your pup all dressed and ready for the outdoors! After they're sitting nicely, we'll head out for some fun. I'll pre-map a route before my first visit (approx. 2-2.5km for a half hour walk, approx 4-5km for a 1-hour walk), and I'll make sure your dog gets some good exercise while still getting to stop and smell the roses and do all their business! Upon returning home, they'll be happy and ready for a nap! For dog/cat drop-ins: Upon arriving, I'll make sure that all their food and water are filled, and their litter cleaned where applicable. Once all the chores are done, I like to settle down for some play and snuggle time! Before I leave, I make sure that your pet is comfortable and happy. I check in with pet owner on both arrival and departure so that you know when I'm there and when I've left.
