Your Providence pet care pro

Pet care experience

I am an experienced pet care professional and a recent Providence transplant hoping to establish a local clientele. I cared for dogs and cats during my time as an undergrad in Portland, OR from 2016-2020 before moving to Salt Lake and transitioning to part-time, independent pet care services. While I am a proud cat mom, I miss spending time with my canine clients and hope to find some folks in need of an extra pair of hands to help with their pup's care needs. Detailed reviews and references from my time as a freelance pet care provider are available upon request. Thanks for considering me to help care for your furry friend, and hope I can help you and your best friend!

Sam is such an incredible pet sitter! She has cared for our three dogs and two cats as though they were her own. We knew we could trust Sam with everyday care and with the varied and specific diets of each animal. She expertly gave medicine to an ailing senior pup of ours as well as regular meds for our 17 year old dog. She is very communicative and always gave us regular updates. Sam always played with our buds and gave them snuggles and love. Our dogs were as excited to see her as when we come home from a long day. Sam is basically family to us at this point and we sure wish she was still in Portland to give amazing care to our brood!

Sam has been super responsive and helpful throughout the booking process. She has been very patient with all my questions and issues getting set up with Rover! Sam arrived at the time we agreed upon, took my pup on a nice long walk, and sent a photo. Couldn't ask for anything else, will definitely use Sam again.

She shows up on time, communicates well and we plan to use her in the future.

Sam came over to meet the dogs and learn of their feeding routine, which can be hectic (4 dogs!), before I went out of town. She seemed to appreciate them and their varied personalities. She came in to feed them for a week. I will use her again.

Safety, trust & environment

My services include 30 and 60 min. walks, 30 min. home check-ins, and overnight stays. With my overnight stay rate, I include breakfast and dinner feedings with a potty break, 1 hour long check-in in between, and spending the night with your pup. Safety is my #1 priority for your pet and your home; therefore, I always require a complimentary meet ‘n greet when we discuss an action plan should an emergency arise. I always try to mimic your dog's normal routine as much as possible and work hard to develop a close bond to alleviate as much stress as I can for them while you're away. I know the worry that comes with leaving your pet, whether that’s for a few hours or for a few days, so I strive for clear and prompt communication with every owner.

Information Sam L. would like to know about your pet

Let me know everything (and more) that you think would help make my working with your dog a success. While I have experience with working with dogs with a variety of temperaments and needs, I am not a certified animal behaviorist and would not be a good fit for pups who are reactive to other dogs or people, or for dogs who display resource guarding with aggression.

A typical day

I always cater my activities with your dog to what they enjoy best! For example, for a senior dog who can only withstand a 15 minute slow-paced walk, clients can book a 30-minute walk that would then include 15 minutes of another activity they enjoy at home, whether that's belly rubs or backyard fetch. I've looked after dogs from high-energy labrador puppies who could play for hours with the Chuckit to senior dogs who wanted to do nothing more than to sit on my lap and take a nap. For overnight clients, please note that my rate includes the overnight stay, 30 min. breakfast & potty, the 60 min. midday check-in (which includes a walk), and 30 min. dinner & potty. Therefore, additional check-in(s) will need to be booked for dogs who do not tolerate 4-5 hour blocks of time alone or require extra potty breaks outside of this schedule.
