The Animal Enthusiast
Pet care experience
Animals are my passion. From my early years of toddling down the street carrying a stray cat as big as I was, to providing endless animal facts I've acquired over the years, animals have always been a huge part of my life. I currently have two cats and one dog, all rescues. My cats, Deliyah and Lindi, are most likely litter-mates, dropped off at the Animal Protective League together as kittens. They had a lot of anxiety in the shelter and really flourished after I adopted them. They are now bossy adults who speak their minds when they don’t get their way. Deliyah enjoys following me around the house and running ahead of me into the bathroom. Lindi demands snuggles while I’m on the computer and prefers to lay on my chest under the covers when I’m in bed. My dog, Ellie Bean, was found wandering 11th Street in the winter. After searching for her owner for a month, I got her a thorough check-up. She is estimated to be nine to twelve years old, and has a variety of health issues. She needed her left hip removed, medication for her Cushing's Disease, to lose 2/3 of her weight, and a lot of patience for her obvious trauma. She is a very sweet little old lady who now dances as I get her food and burrows under the sheets to sleep with me. Over the years I have owned, lived with, or otherwise helped care for a variety of animals, including ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, a bearded dragon, hamsters, mice, gerbils, and freshwater fish. If you have any pets other than cats and dogs, please let me know and we can discuss payment adjustments. Before confirming the booking, I require a Meet and Greet. This is so that your pets can sniff me and start getting used to me being in their house, for you to ask any questions you have for me, and for me to learn what care needs your pets have and where their food and supplies are kept. If you have cats, I’ll also do what I call the “cat interview.” I will sit down on the floor and talk with you from there to give the cats the chance to come sniff me while I’m in a less threatening position. I’ve had clients shocked to see their timid cats approach me to investigate, because they’ve never done that before. I do not approach cats that aren’t fully comfortable with me, in order to give them space and respect, and to not come across as aggressive. I do not enter homes that smell like smoke.

While in my care, your family members will be treated as my own. I provide personalized care for each individual, as no two animals are alike. You can expect regular updates and pictures while you spend your time away from your loved ones completely worry-free.
Information Sam K. would like to know about your pet
During the Meet and Greet, I will ask: Does your pet have any health conditions or take medication? Do they have any behavior issues or a history of aggression? Are there any body parts they prefer not to be touched? Do they ever try to run out the door? What trash can would you like scooped litter to be put in? Would you like mail to be brought in? Do you have any plants that need to be watered?
A typical day
Aside from taking care of your pets' basic needs, I will spend time with them however they prefer. For those who are unsure of me, I sit and talk to them quietly and calmly to acclimate them to my presence without stressing them out. For those who are interested, I play with their favorite toys with them and offer my lap for snuggles. I am also known to “wrestle” on the floor with dogs who enjoy roughhousing.
