Rescues are my thing!

Pet care experience

I've had rescue dogs for the past 20 years. If you know dogs, they can be some of the hardest to train or the easiest depending on their experiences before they got their break and got adopted. Ours were all "high risk" working breed dogs (ACD, Husky/Lab, Husky mix) that had been given up and had been at the shelters for extended periods. They had little socialization in the year that followed their arriving at the shelters. They have all turned out to be great dogs that love to learn obedience and proper play. Our latest is a husky mix that had been living on the street for a year before being brought to Oakland Animal Shelter. With hard work and consistent training and love she has learned to trust people and loves pretty much everyone she meets. She excels at playing at the dog park and then adding in some distraction training at the end once she has expended some energy. She never fails to impress the other owners with her recall and tricks and sit/stay with the other dogs running around. Our trips to the dog park usually end up with us discussing training with at least one or two owners that want to know how I taught my dog what she knows, and I am always happy to share. My friends have trusted me to watch their dogs over the years as well, and always comment on how well they behave when they get back from vacation. :D. It's all positive reward training and the dogs don't even know they are learning. I'd love to help keep your dog exercised with a walk or socialized at your dog park if you'd like.

Ryan is an exceptional dog caregiver with ~20 years experience caring for and training very smart and very stubborn dogs. It is obvious when you meet Ryan and see him interacting with his pups that he is very dedicated to them, and the pups are so happy too! Ryan is very attentive, loving, and consistently gives instruction with lots of positive reinforcement. His husky mix Kaylee is so well behaved and listens so well, even with tons of distractions from other dogs and humans at the dog park! Ryan is a wonderful resource to have - he can give great training tips, and the pups have a blast playing with him.

Hiking or walks in the area, dog park visits, long games of fetch, maybe some agility of your dog shows interest!
