Top-Notch Care As If They Were Mine

Pet care experience

I've had dogs and cat since I was a kid. I had two shelties growing up, have two more now, and have had several shelter cats along the way. I am experienced with young puppies, having trained my current two shelties since they were 8 weeks old. Using positive reinforcement and clicker training, I trained my dogs in many areas including going to the bathroom outside, crate training, socialization with other dogs and people, and more. I also have experience with serious injury and recovery. One of my shelties incurred a serious injury at a groomer when she was younger and required a femoral head ostectomy (FHO). I personally drove her to and from physical therapy, which included swimming and underwater treadmill use, and oversaw her care and recovery at home. I worked with her doing stretches and following the careful instructions laid out by vets who performed her surgery and rehabilitated her during physical therapy. I also have two aunts who are professional dog trainers and former dog sitters. I have picked up a wide variety of knowledge from them over the years, including how to deal with challenging dogs, what to do in emergency situations, and how to manage care for high-needs and high-energy dogs. Most recently, I pet/house sat for my aunt and uncle while they went on vacation. They have four border collies, ranging in ages from 18 months to 10 years old. They are well-trained dogs but still came with special needs and instructions. I was required to administer medication every day along with very specific instructions for meals as each dog had different food and supplement requirements. Their eldest has a serious heart condition, one has Addison's Disease, and another is recovering from a serious shoulder injury that will prevent him from participating in agility. Furthermore, just before their vacation, two of their dogs (the eldest and youngest) had digestive issues resulting in both having diarrhea for several days. By adjusting food and administering medication, my aunt and uncle managed to stabilize them enough to continue with their vacation, and I continued treatment and monitoring while I was there. I also have an understanding of exercise for high-drive and high-energy dogs like border collies.

Ryan took great care of our two pups and our home while we were alway for a few days. He did a great job communicating with us - sending pictures, videos, and updates about how they were doing. The dogs were really comfortable with him and it was clear that he developed a good rapport with them. They whined when he left the house. We will definitely use Ryan again.

Safety, trust & environment

I want to provide the safest environment possible for any animals in my care. My own pets are my world and I would be devastated if anything happened to them. I want to extend that to all clients and their pets and aim to provide the same care to your pets as I give my own. I will provide daily updates and pictures and more if requested. I am not opposed to cameras, such as Furbo or nanny cams, in common areas and encourage it if clients feel safer with them.

Information Ryan S. would like to know about your pet

How would you describe your pet's personality? How do they interact and behave around other animals? How do they interact and behave around people (including children and new people)? Are they particularly shy with strangers? What are their exercise requirements? Do they need a lot of mental stimulation? Do they adjust well to new routines? Is a strict routine required for them to be at ease? How do they react to weather (rain, thunderstorms, snow, etc.)? What, if any, medications are they on? Do they have any specific routines or rituals (e.g., treats before bed, a spot they have to go smell on walks or in the backyard, a specific toy they must have close by)?

A typical day

Dancing! But in all seriousness, I want to provide a similar experience to the routines and schedules each pet is used to when you are home. That could mean a nice, long walk to tire them out, playing with them with their favorite dog or cat toy, or snuggles if they need lots of affection. If your pet is trained in obedience or agility, I can provide basic exercise in those areas if it's something they enjoy and would be amiss without it. I am to tailor each pet's routine to adhere as closely to their normal schedule while taking into consideration their age, physical capabilities/limitations, and temperament.
