Lots of flexible, free time to give to a pup!!

Pet care experience

I've taken care of animals since a very young child, and of rescue dogs and cats since I was 10. We first welcomed a dog, Walter, into our family when I was 10, who was a large rescue hound/escape-artist. From then on I walked, fed, cleaned, and helped with training Walter, and escape-proofing our garden! Throughout this time I was also trusted by neighbours and friends to look after their dogs and cats while they were away, including overnight stays for up to 2-weeks at a time. We welcomed a rescue lurcher puppy, Isla, when I was 16, who needed a very different kind of care than Walter - lots of patience and gentle introduction into the world of humans and dogs. Isla is now 11, and I've learned how to care for an older pup, who has gone through multiple health complications - including major surgery, medication, and dietary requirements. As an adult, I looked after a 10-month old german shepherd mix, Koski, for a year. He was brought up as an "outdoor guard dog", so I had to train a lot of behaviours he had picked up, like jumping up, play biting, and house-training. This was whilst living in a tropical country, and so there was also a different set of care needs around cleanliness and diseases/infections. I have continued to dog- and cat-sit for friends since moving house, who have all needed very different kinds of care, including those with separation anxiety and reactivity to other dogs.

Welly absolutely loved his days with Ruby! She is flexible, fabulous and my little character absolutely loved spending time with her. He returned happy, chilled and exhausted from his days of play and walkies. Ruby let in touch with me throughout the day and have me great updates of how he was getting on. I’ll definitely be calling on her again!

I couldn't recommend Ruby more highly as a kind, trustworthy and reliable caregiver for your pet. She has spent her life surrounded by dogs (and other animals of all shapes and sizes), and she will treat your pet with the utmost care, diligence, warmth and kindness. I trust her implicitly. Your pet will be lucky to have her companionship :)

Whenever I go on holiday ruby is the first person I ask to look after my dog. She is so caring and attentive with Bertie and as a dog owner herself she knows exactly how to look out for others’ furry friends!

I live in a house with lots of space for zoomies, although it's best if your pup can climb / be carried up one flight of stairs (if they can't, please do still get in touch, as we have a downstairs room with a sofa that opens into the garden, I'll just need to move things around down there!). Once upstairs, there is a door that we can close to keep the stairs separate and we also have space to set up a crate, if needed. We have a modest, fenced garden, with grass and space to zoom. This also backs out onto a (rarely used!) shared community garden, with plenty more space and lots of bushes and trees to sniff around. Just around the corner, we have Belair Park, a dog-friendly space, as well as being just a short walk (10 mins) from Dulwich Park and Brockwell Park, both of which I loop around on my walk before work.

A typical day

As my job is so flexible, this gives us lots of time to play and relax in the house, as well as in the secure garden. We are lucky enough to have a slightly bigger communal garden directly behind the house, with lots of new smells and places to explore, as well as Belair Park (very dog-friendly!) just around the corner. A further 10-minute walk is Brockwell Park and Dulwich Park, both of which I visit every day. A little further again, we have the beautiful Sydenham Woods (a favourite of mine!), Peckham Rye Common and Crystal Palace Park.

I currently work a 4-day week (Mon-Thurs), with flexible hours, and fully remote - so I'm at home all day and able to fit my work around your pup's schedules! I'm very outdoorsy, so love spending my time off out and about walking, and during the work week it's important to me to get outside, so I already build in time for morning, lunchtime and after-work walks. On weekends I go farther afield!
