Profesional Trainer/Behavior Consul

Pet care experience

As well as being a Trainer and Behavior Consultant, I have been informally caring for, walking, sitting and training dogs of family and friends, for decades. In the past few years, that has changed and I have made it simply, what I do. I am thrilled at this life change and so are the dogs I get to work with. I not only walk and offer drop-ins, but if your pup is in my care, I can also help with training on dogs of any age, including as young as 2 months. I am 100% Positive Reinforcement/Clicker Training. I also volunteer at the Bedford and Lynchburg Humane Societies and I love it. Some ask me why I do this full time and volunteer, and it's only because those dogs without homes deserve the attention and love, just as much as those dogs in my employ. This what I do. It is not a 'side hustle'. I will care for your pets as well as, if not better than my own. I do have outside clients, but if we have a problem with times, I will let you know immediately, and we can make it work. I have 5 Dogs who live with me, who love to play with other dogs. I do have two cats, one is indifferent and one that thinks she is a dog. We have a large yard, a fenced in play area and quiet road for walking, as well as nearby walking trails that we love to frequent. While your dog is in my care, they will get walks and, if you wish, any training that you might desire them to learn.

We originally found Ron through Rover when looking for someone to check in on our older dog and puppy. I’d never used a service like this before and I admit I was a little skeptical letting a stranger into our house but after meeting Ron once all my fears were assuaged! Ron first scheduled a meet and greet to meet the pups and discuss our needs. After that, he handled anything from walks, potty breaks, medications, and dinner time. He started working on some basic training with our puppy and we eventually completed a 3 week training course and our 7 month old puppy is better behaved than I could have imagined! Both our pups (& their humans) will miss Ron so much! Can’t recommend him highly enough.

It was a big responsibility caring for 4 cats and 2 dogs, but Ron rose to the occasion. He really loves animals, and I reccomend him unconditionally.

Information Ron H. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed preferences. I love all dogs, large and small. Before sitting/walking your dog, I would like to know about any dietary restrictions, the things that you and your dog do for fun and any behavioral issues, that you would like to address. A meet and greet, prior to the first sitting, is essential, to get to see and know a little about the dog and for the dog to pick up my scent and get familiarized with me. I also require proof of up to date rabies vaccination, at the time of the meet & greet.

A typical day

If you live within an area with a public park, with walking trails, those are always a great and safe place to go for walks with your dog. If not, then, I'd love to walk them in your neighborhood. If you have a fenced in yard, that is probably their safe space and the perfect place to let them run and play. As far as activities are concerned, like people, every dog is different, with their own personality. What are some fun things your dogs like to do? I have two small dogs and two larger ones. They all like to run, go for walks and socialize with other dogs. The small adult dog doesn't play with many toys, although he keeps them neatly in his toy basket, but he does love to run around and try to not let me catch him, be it in the house, or in a safe area outside. (He knows he's faster than I am) His favorite thing though, is to cuddle, kiss and get belly rubs. My larger, and older female is up there in age and sick, so she doesn't do much playing, but she does enjoy the company of dogs, and my male is a wonderful mentor for younger dogs and a helper in my business, when working with dogs with fear and anxiety issues.
