For the Love of Dogs

Pet care experience

I have loved dogs from childhood, raising a few in my younger years and adopted a lovely puppy in my 30s and caring for him for 16 years. I am go to for friends/family who need overnight dog care and understand dogs, and they me. Lots of gentleness, play, outdoor time, and detailed instruction following with meds, treats, and toys. While I may allow my own dogs on the bed, following household rules makes life easier for man and beast to be consistent. Regular meals and walks make for happy dogs and happy people. Some dogs want long boisterous walks and others (like my own) need or want to be carried a bit, but to bask in the sunshine. We all want the best for our dogs. I am widely available to stay with your dogs every weekend and week day and happy to visit morning, noon, night for walks. Long term care is a specialty. My regular routine is flexible around dog's daily care though typically a walk first thing, with a romp in a dog park, ball play, easy jogging if your dog enjoys running, and lots of petting, brushing, and chat! Dogs love to be challenged, and I love teaching old dogs new tricks. I've successfully trained dogs basic commands (treat based method) such as sit, stay, roll over, shake paw, and pivots. Many dogs enjoy "hide n seek" for treats too to use their sense of smell to find hidden treats. After my day job I provide another long walk, a good brush and feeding according to the dogs needs. If you have a car available or car fare, there are some good waterfronts where dogs are free to frolic! Dog parks and runs abound in the city if your dog likes his own kind and being off leash. Dogs too need downtime in equal measure and can stand a good pet and scratch after their bedtime walk. Older dogs or frisky dogs often need more trips outside, that is fine and each according to his or her need! I am experienced giving pills and lotions and using an "elizabethan collar" and other devices to stop licking or wound infection. My #1 job is to keep your dog healthy, happy, and ready to welcome you home!
