Better Handler, Happier Dog
Pet care experience
I’m a qualified dog handler with a background in shaping canine behavior; I’m accustomed to a variety of training tools used for clear communication and everyday management for every dog. I learn from each dog and place emphasis on optimizing conditions that allow them to express their inherent qualities through stimulating activity and exercise.

Information Robert L. would like to know about your pet
It is very helpful to know a the dog's favorites: Favorite toy(s): tug, squeaky toys, tennis ball? Favorite food(s): kibble, treats, raw? Situations to avoid: is the dog reactive to other dogs or people? Is it fearful of loud noises or prone to chasing squirrels? Breed of dog: helps to know the potential drives which can be very beneficial for preparation and choosing options for training areas. Walking habits: prong collar or gentle lead, harness, etc? Behaviors you wish to improve (Goals): doorway manners, sit, down, heeling. Injury history: Age:
A typical day
Everyday begins with a good walk to stretch the legs, allow the dogs time to eliminate and work up an appetite. Meals are served shortly thereafter; while the dogs rest and digest, I make any necessary adjustments to the training schedule based on conditions or observation. I then arrange training scenarios and a kennel rotation before I begin taking dogs out for exercise or shaping behavior. I believe in play-based training so often our training sessions accomplish both mental and physical stimulation. Depending on a dog’s motivation, we may do up to three sessions per day or as little as one. Some dogs simply need socialization and confidence building, so I may choose to allow them to engage in play or an additional hike with a mentor dog. I conclude each day with final scheduled meals, an assessment of progress and a plan for the next day accordingly.
