Dogs are my life: Wish I was a dog!

Pet care experience

A loving dog owner all my life, my dogs now live with my ex wife and kids. I've raised numerous dogs of all sizes. After reading "All Creatures Great and Small" as a kid, I wanted to be a vet and worked for clinics from age 15-22, so I'm well versed in all aspects of pet care, including giving medicines of all varieties. I have a super flexible job, so I'm open to a wide range of options for boarding, house sitting, visits, etc. I do live in a very small house, behind a bigger house owned by a friend. He has two sweet dogs that share the back yard, which is fairly large and well fenced. One of my friend's dogs is a goofy 5-year-old Lab, and the other a 13-year-old mostly blind/deaf little mix. They both love other dogs, but there's always the option of keeping them apart, as I have access to his big house up front and do a lot of dog sitting for him. I love being active with dogs--playing ball, going to the dog park, swimming--whatever you're comfortable with. Dogs are usually welcome on my bed and couch for night-time relaxing! I'm also really good at reading dogs and knowing there's something wrong that needs attention, or if they're just being dogs. Again, I'm very flexible, so let me know if there's something that creates a great fit for what you need!

I have known Rob D'Amico for many years and he has always been responsible and very dependable. He has always gone way out of his way when it comes to helping with our dogs Heidi and Jazz. Heidi was abused as a young dog and was a rescue so she does not take to others easily. She becomes overwhelmed and traumatized at places with animals and such. So boarding is totally out. Having a pet sitter was the only way we could go. Rob has been watching Heidi Jazz for their whole lives. (Heidi 13 and Jazz 6).

Rob is the greatest dog lover I know. He has vet tech training and he loves to be around pups. He has house sat in our home for our dogs several times and our pups love him.

Information Rob D. would like to know about your pet

I love all breeds, sizes, shapes, etc. I've cared for everything from chihuahuas to Great Pyrenees, including a Pyrenees who was afraid of chihuahuas. Safety for your pet is of first importance, so I'd want to know if they run away (even though they would be leashed, you never know), have any aggression issues (e.g. leash aggression, which his common), and then everything about what they need to stay happy, healthy and engaged when you're not there.

A typical day

Walks at my home would be around the neighborhood. There's a small park on the corner, but it's not fenced. I'm happy to take dogs to the 10th-street dog park, the spillway, a coffee shop for people watching, or whatever you're comfortable with (obviously making sure they are not runners or have serious aggression problems with other dogs/humans). I'm also willing to work with dogs on their socialization skills, either with my friends' dogs or at the dog park. Fetch is always great, but if that's not in the dogs bag of tricks, then a little fun chase usually works...or just a brisk walk.
