Watchful care, parks, exercise!
Pet care experience
For 8 years I raised an energetic shepherd-husky using positive operant conditioning over which time she earned a certificate as an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC), and we successfully passed skills tests and I completed written exams to register with Pet Partners (formerly Delta Society) as a handler in their Therapy Animal Program. For over 2 and a half years I volunteered with dogs, cats, and rabbits at a municipal animal shelter, where I cared for, exercised, bathed, and fed them, worked with canines exhibiting difficult behavior, cleaned kennels, helped raise funds for the program, and served as an adoption counselor to qualify and coach new owners through the process of rescuing a dog. I was highlighted in a local newspaper article featuring the shelter, after which I also attended a ride-along with the police animal services unit to learn about challenging and emergency situations. Playful, enriching time with dogs is a lot of fun, but I also carefully tend to senior, injured, or less active ones, and while adjustable across a wide range of behavior I am gentle but consistent on discipline. Since I no longer have my own pet, I’m happy to look after yours, and enforce any rules you prefer. I also practice a vegan diet and continue to volunteer and donate towards causes for animal welfare.
Reviews
Great communication and sent pictures during the drop in visit. Appreciate the flexibility with coordinating the visit.
RJ is a wonderful pet caregiver! I'm always nervous to leave my babies when I'm traveling, but when RJ's the one who's taking care of them I know they're in great hands. He pays attention to their schedule and he also makes sure they get enough attention and love when I'm away. With RJ, I never need to worry about them, and I always come back to find them pampered. We're lucky to have RJ take care of them, and I trust him fully!
I’ve known Rj for over 25 years... he is kind-hearted and a true animal lover. Rj volunteers at animal shelters and animal rescue centers. He is like a brother to me and his warm heart shows through on even the darkest days. I’d trust him with my life. I give Rj my highest recommendation to work for Rover. -Jerry A Broomfield, CO

Safety, trust & environment
I treat pets cautiously and thoughtfully, consider their traits and behavior as best as possible for a relatively short encounter. I enjoy moving through city blocks and parks, and prioritize safety.
Information Rj A. would like to know about your pet
Having handled a variety of dogs, I tend to match activity with the energy level of the dog that day. Just let me know if you have one who wants to be active, or instead enjoys a slower, calmer time out. If there are any rules or conditions you call out, especially certain triggers or sensitivities, I’ll make sure to note those and maintain control. Also, let me know if you support animal welfare nonprofit organizations and I’ll gladly consider adjusting my contributions toward them, too, as 100% of my profit made here goes to San Francisco SPCA. Cheers!
A typical day
I’ll prioritize walks to nearby parks and through urban spaces, maintain a safe distance from other dogs and make sure to avoid coming into contact with any triggers of conflict or litter, offer enough water, find shade when it’s too hot, but overall have a fun mini-adventure outdoors. If you’re okay with letting your dog run, then I’ll offer them a healthy pace of exercise, too.

Availability
Time permitting, I’ll walk dogs between work hours and errands. I’m not running a part time business so I have flexibility to help as needed and be selective about who I meet.
