Pet care experience
As a child, my family kept cats, chickens, finches, cavies, a rabbit, and fish. As an adult, I own dogs, cats, freshwater tropical fish (including a 14” common plecostomus), and am working to add coturnix quail to the pack by spring 2024. I’ve made it my goal to eventually make my entire career about animal care, with the end goal being primarily based in becoming a multi-certificated dog trainer. For now, my goals will be helped along through pet sitting, dog walking, volunteering at animal shelters, and learning as much as I can as I go. I spend quite a lot of time reading animal care and behavior books; listening to podcasts; talking to trainers & behaviorists; taking online classes; and learning under accomplished mentors. I’m always striving to learn about positive, science-backed animal care and training, and I’m willing to care for just about any species and breed of domesticated animal.
Reviews
We book Risa for dog walking for all of our time away from home, our dogs love her, she stays in contact about how your pets are doing, and we have complete confidence that our dogs are in the best care while we are away. We are lucky to have Risa in our community!
Risa has taken care of our pets three times now. When we come back they are happy and relaxed. Clearly they received tons of TLC! She goes above and beyond and we love having Risa take care of our pets!
Thank you so much for taking care of our kitty! We appreciate you. ❤️❤️❤️
Risa took excellent care of our pets this weekend. We couldn’t ask for a more conscientious pet sitter. Risa met our pets a few days before our trip, and while we were gone took our dog for walks and sent photos of our happy dog. We definitely recommend Risa to others!

Safety, trust & environment
Safety is priority, always. No shortcuts on equipment fitting will be taken, no foods and treats other than those that are specifically given the okay will be given, any odd behaviors or health concerns will be brought to your attention as soon as they are noticed, the surroundings will be carefully monitored during walks, etc. I have training in cat and dog CPR and emergency first aid, and am willing to learn emergency measures for other domesticated animals, if such trainings are found necessary and are available. Your pets’ health and safety are of highest concern.
Information Risa N. would like to know about your pet
Let me know in advance if your pet has any medical needs or concerns, or if your dog has reactivity or behavioral concerns. Additionally, let me know what treats you prefer I use, if they have a favorite toy, and any other relevant information that will help me gain their trust if they’re not sure about me at first (I’m tall, and there have been a couple of dogs who were nervous about my height, so I try to go in with backup plans, especially for anxious dogs).
A typical day
Enrichment is the name of the game! Sniffy walks, puzzle toys, working on approved tricks and training, anything that helps your dog or cat feel mentally and physically enriched. I’ve become quite good at turning boxes, egg crates, dog beds, and a handful of kibble into tools for games and puzzles, and even the laziest, pickiest cat has their perfect game.

Availability
I currently work part to full time, and Saturday & Sunday are typically spent at my main job until around 5pm. Feel free to send me a message at least 3 days in advance about what pet care you need, and I’ll see what we can get scheduled!
