I feel the happiest around animals.

Pet care experience

I have been an animal lover for as long as I can remember. Growing up I was never able to have pets of my own as my dad was allergic. Being an animal lover and not being able to have my own meant I jumped at every opportunity I could to spend time with animals. Whether this is playing with them at friends/relatives, taking them for walks, or simply feeding them (which is arguably their favourite time of the day) I was doing it! I have had several opportunities to dog and cat sit friends animals while they are away. Most of the time I have spent my entire time at the owners home spending time with the animals taking them for walks, taking them to dog parks, feedings them, playing with them, and attending to the animals personal requirements making the animal and owner feel as comfortable as can be. While I have had amazing experiences house sitting I have also had to deal with challenges. In my most recent experience the dog was experiencing anxiety being away from their owner and was experiencing bathroom issues and mood imbalances. To make sure I took the best care of the animal I paid extremely close attention to the animal and remained in contact with the owner the entire time giving them updates and communicating what the next steps that need to be taken are. In this case, I took the animal to the vet to check if there was anything going on further than just anxiety. Between the vet, owner, and I we promptly resolved the issue where I began giving daily medication to the dog and regular extra affection to relieve stress being away from owners. My goal for pet sitting is to always make sure the animal is as happy and comfortable as it can be as I understand it can be hard to be away from your owners. Bringing in a new human into the picture can be challenging for animals as it’s not what they are used to. As a pet sitter I value the importance of creating a strong relationship with the owner and the animal so both feel as comfortable and happy as possible.

Rebeccah has done a great job pet-sitting for our family on several occasions. We have older pets and they have presented her with some challenges. Our dog was very anxious when we left and she spent time cuddling with him throughout the day. She also contacted us when he was unwell, took him to the vet and gave him his medication as directed. Without going into too much detail, let's just say she had a pretty nasty cleaning job to take care of, but she was cheerful about the whole situation. Although we felt terrible knowing he was sick, Rebeccah's positive attitude and obvious competence gave us the peace of mind to enjoy our vacation knowing our dog was in good hands.

Rebeccah was very attentive with my boys when I had her watch them for a few days. Excellent communication and very responsible, not to mention she treated them like her own! Highly recommend to anyone looking for someone to care for their pets :)

I recommend Rebeccah as a caregiver for any of your beloved furry family members! Rebeccah is always inquiring about the happiness of our three girls (2 dogs, and 1 cat). When she is with them, she engages with them fully, and we can count on her to exercise the dogs. Rebeccah is full of energy! Most importantly, Rebeccah recognizes that we are guardians, and our animals are members of our family, not merely pets. I wouldn't hesitate to contact Rebeccah, and check her schedule!

Safety, trust & environment

While taking care of pets in a foreign home to my own I always treat it as I would my own. The safety of the animal and myself is top priority. It is important to make sure all doors are locked at all times and I am aware of the activity going on outside. This also means the environment the animal and I are staying in is safe making sure everything the animal could possibly get into is out of reach or put away, hot elements and tools and closely attended to or OFF, and I am the only to be taking care of the animal and in the home as the owner has built a relationship with myself and no one else. I recognize the importance of respecting the home as it is not my own and care of everything within it and outside of it. I understand how having someone in your home can possibly feel unsettling as your home is your comfort zone and the space you rest your head at night. While I am in someone else’s home I always remember how privileged I am to be accepted into someone’s else’s space and give it the most care I can give to it as possible.

I am currently in a gap year between high school and university. I work a part time at a grocery store only working 13 hours a week for 4 hours in the evenings two nights and one day shift. This means I have loads of time of my hands to attend to house pets and house sit when needed. I have access to a car so transportation is no issue and I can be at animals needs promptly.
