I spend time with each animal, as I know each is unique and needs their own type of care. I have dealt with protective blue heelers, arthritic dogs with special diets, cats that need meds, completely blind cats, and adopted pets still trying to understand their new surroundings. I have spent time taking care of an owners house along with their pets, and always try to leave the place as clean as when I first arrived. At one point I spent most of a year raising a Lab/Dane mix puppy because the owner was dealing with issues out of state and couldn't take the puppy with him. I ended up having to leash train, house train, crate train, walk, and play with him, while also taking care of his housemate who was arthritic, needed meds 2x a day, and was on a special diet. I have taken care of special breed cats (Bengals and savannahs) and special need cats (completely blind). I don't like to take pets on walks in the afternoon, especially in summer, because the hot asphalt can hurt them, and I don't want your pet to get burned. I usually try to take them out more in the morning and evenings. I also like to meet the animals a few times with the owners to see how they normally react. I can generally reason with a protective dog, but I stay far away from aggressive ones. I also know that some signs of aggression can be nervousness or fear, and that the dog can calm down with some introductions.
