Trying to Make Fetch Happen

Pet care experience

When I was 4 years old, I wanted a bird but got a hamster instead. Ever since, I’ve made it a point to keep myself surrounded by animals. Started with hamsters. Upgraded to ferrets. Starting at 9, I started riding horses, and owned one from 12 to 24. I’ve always had a cat or 2 by my side, and at 33, got my first dog. Knowing my experience throughout the years, my family & friends have reached out to me to pet sit. Recently, I started living my dream of becoming an animal care professional working as a kennel tech & volunteering at a zoo.

Rachel got us out of a tough situation by agreeing to drop in on our cats with very short notice. We were gone for two weeks and the previous sitter no-showed, so we were very grateful that Rachel stepped up. However, I was disappointed that she only stayed the full 30 minutes on 3 out of 14 days. There were a couple days where the drop ins were less than 20 minutes. Since the drop in was advertised as 30 minutes, I expected my kitties to be kept company for that long since they had no other human contact all day. When I returned home, I immediately noticed a stench of poop in the house. I walked in my room, where a litter box and food bowls are located, and noticed about 5 turds beside my bed. I looked under the bed and found days’ worth of poop under the bed. This is very out of character for my cats and I wish I had been notified of the behavior. I don’t see how this could have been ignored. The visible poop was dry, which leads me to believe it had been there on the carpet for a while. It was annoying to have to deal with cleaning that up as soon as I walked in the door after returning from a long trip

Rachel has been wonderful with my dog and cat. She took pictures of them so I had no worries. I will always use her when I leave town because I know I can count on her.

Information Rachel Z. would like to know about your pet

Going in, I like to know the general temperament, along with any reactiveness/aggression & what causes these behaviors in them normally. Next, I’d be interested to know any special needs as far as mobility, sight, hearing, neurological, etc. From there, I’d move on to the details of their care (diet, medications, treats, etc.) & any other quirks they might have.

A typical day

Beyond normal cuddles/pets, I would find out their favorite type of play/exercise, as far as toys or fetch or just lazy walks or even just stop at the cuddles/pets & go from there based on what is in their comfort zone, especially with a stranger (me).
