Cats, dogs, and exotics, oh my!
Pet care experience
I grew up on a family farm and participated in 4-H and FFA for many years. In high school I was enrolled in a veterinary science vocational program for 2 years. I grew up with large dogs and I LOVE bully breeds! I previously used to work with rescued racing thoroughbreds, using only positive reinforcement and no harsh training methods, so I'm not daunted by large dog breeds with energy.

Rachel was great! She was very communicative and took Ruth on a nice long walk! I would book with Rachel again.
Our family has quite an assortment of animals (and plants) and Rachel does a great job of caring for all of them! She has become our go-to pet sitter when we're out of town and is timely, knowledgeable and responsible. Because we have a cat, dogs, rats, fish, reptiles and plants, we have had issues in the past with pet sitters getting overwhelmed or forgetting certain elements of animal care but Rachel has never missed a beat and follows our care instructions to a T! This removes a lot of the stress associated with travel because we know our pets will be looked after properly.
Rachel is a true animal lover. She is so in tune with the needs and personalities of the animals under her care. She is amazing!

Safety, trust & environment
As someone who has a diverse background in animal care, from working with domestics like dogs to working with wildlife, I know one thing is universal: putting the animal's individual needs first. Every animal has a unique personality with unique needs, and I incorporate their individuality into their care plan. I prioritize the animal's safety and behavioral well-being above all, which is why I use individual centered care. I love animals and will treat yours like they are my own.
Information Rachel M. would like to know about your pet
I need to be notified of: • any reactivity triggers and potential behavior that could present a risk to both the dog and its environment. I.e, fear of other dogs, human aggression, fear of cars, etc. • any chronic illness/injuries so I can be mindful of your pup's limits and needs. This includes allergies, medications, joint issues, etc. • vaccination and spay/neuter status
A typical day
I love to go for long walk through parks and dog-friendly trails and paths. I incorporate positive reinforcement training with dogs that need a little work with reactivity, and I can adjust routes as needed for dogs that are reactive to avoid stress triggers.

Availability
I work part-time for an environmental restoration firm where I restore natural habitats and occasionally do wildlife surveys, so on days with no projects I have lots of time to walk dogs. I am typically available all day most days.
