enthusiastic animal lover!
Pet care experience
I am experienced in caring for both cats and dogs. Since I was in high school, looking after pets has been both a hobby and a job. When I was 14, an elderly neighbor lost his mobility, and with it the ability to walk his dog. I began taking his chow-chow on walks around the neighborhood, and gained a sense of fulfillment from helping both my friend and his companion. Since then, I have been quick to volunteer my services in animal care. I can administer medicine, assist in training, and am attentive and communicative with owners.
Reviews
Rachel has helped me on and off with my dogs for at least 5 years. She is very dependable, capable and my dogs adore her (which is saying a lot as my dogs are persnickety). I highly recommend Rachel. She will take great care of your pets.
Rachel J has an amazing heart and a love of animals! She has cared for 2 of our dogs, one older female English lab and one male German shepherd mix (very exuberant) puppy. She plays and interacts with those in her care and truly enjoys them! I highly recommend her.
Rachel worked for me as a house and pet sitter periodically for several years. She was always proactive and caring, picking up and giving medications, feeding, and cleaning. I am sure my cat like her better than me:) I recommend without hesitation.
Hello! Over the years, Rachel has cared for and loved our dogs. She walks them with enthusiasm and always ensures they are safe. (Read: My dogs don't look both ways when they cross the street and Rachel definitely does!) Rachel loves our dogs and shows it through snuggles, pets, and giving yummy (Mom approved) treats! Our dogs love Rachel and it's always a treat when they get to see her!

Skills
Safety, trust & environment
Dogs: I assess their energy levels, and try to meet them where they're at. I love to play tug, fetch, and encourage outside zoomies, but I can also just hang out and give pets. In the home, I like to keep things more calm, and am not fazed by cleaning up an animal mess (bathroom or otherwise). Cats: Every cat is incredibly different, so my goal is to figure out their individual desires. Some cats open up quick, some need soft stares from across the room before they trust you. I fancy myself pretty intuitive, and love to solve the social puzzle of each cat. In the home (as a cat owner), I know keeping the litter box clean in important for both me and the cat-- it makes us both happy.
Information Rachel J. would like to know about your pet
Please, let me know about energy levels and social desires ahead of time. Also, for dogs, their level of training. In the past, I have made training a priority in my dog sitting. Not that I, myself, will train your dog, but just reinforcing what is already being worked on.
A typical day
Dogs: I love trips to the dogs park for a game of fetch. In a drop-in visit, I can practice my avid tug skills, and make sure their good and worn out by the time their owner gets home. If there is training you'd like reinforced during my visits, I am also more than willing to work on that. Cats: I'm a distant-slow-blink champion, as well as a patient cat game player (what do you call the stick with string and feathers?). If the cat is into cuddles and pets off the bat, they will be provided, if they need some time to build trust, I will lay on the floor and let them investigate me until they wanna hang.

Availability
I'm a student at SFSU, and work early days on weekends. Dog walking, or check-ins, would be perfect for me on Tuesdays and Thursdays, also after work on weekends.
