20 Years Experience

Pet care experience

My dogs are always one of the most important part of my life; I've even made a career in pet nutrition. My parents were Silky Terrier breeders for a time and I grew up learning how to care for tiny puppies and starting their training before they moved on to their forever homes. I have experience with everything from rehabbing problem behaviors to administering medication. (At the time of writing, one of my own dog is recovering from emergency eye surgery and has to have 8 different medications administered throughout the day.) For two years, I ran my own transport business, in which I transported dogs across country when owners moved and didn't want to fly their dogs. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for my small terriers but I love the big dogs, too. I also have extensive experience with cats and ferrets. (Or "funny kitties," as my dearly departed Silky Terrier knew them.)

Both my boys were well taken care of. My chickens were happy too. Definitely recommend Rachelle!

I am blessed with probably the goofiest muppet of a dog. He's half english sheep dog, half malamute and all nervous idiot. He's 100lbs, prone to not eating when the weather changes and spooks if the wind blows the wrong way. Let me say it kindly that while I love this dog, he is not an easy sell to any pet sitter. Rachel helped me out during a family emergancy when I had to go out of town for three weeks (She also watched my cat and my other dog, but they're much less inclined to be in crisis mode all the time). Let me tell you that it takes EFFORT and planning to get this dog on a leash or anywhere near a car, and Rachel manages it! He absolutely adores her and misses her when she doesn't come to see him. I couldn't have asked for better!

Rachel J. has always loved animals; she cares deeply for them. I had an older silky terrier (16 years-old,) Rachel took the time to teach me how to care for my elderly dog. Rachel has a heart of gold. She even helped (from states away,) raise three abandoned kittens. Two of which had medical issues. Rachel spent time on the phone with me guiding me on how to feed my abandoned kittens.

I treat your dogs like I'd want my dogs to be treated by a sitter. I follow your directions meticulously - I have a dog who takes medications and has allergies, so her diet and routine is set in stone. I understand what that's like, and I won't deviate from your directions.

Information Rachel J. would like to know about your pet

I have experience with special needs dogs. I have a blind dog myself, and I've had a deaf dog. I can manage medical issues, but I just need to know what you need me to do. Let me know about any routines that you want followed to the letter, any medications that need to be administered, or any allergies that I need to be aware of.

A typical day

I really love to get the dogs outside (when weather allows) and play with them in the backyard. If there are toys around (for dogs and cats both!) I play with them inside and outside. Sometimes, I'll have puzzle toys available and owner-approved treats.
