I'll <3 your dog while you're away.

Pet care experience

I've been in love with dogs my entire life. I grew up learning everything I could about them: reading books about breed histories, dog training and psychology, working at the local vet's office, and spending lots of time with friends' dogs. I gained experience caring for pet and stray dogs while working as a veterinary assistant in high school. Caring for strays taught me how to make friends with dogs with difficult pasts and a few rough edges. I worked as a kennel attendant in college, providing all-day care to dogs whose owners were out of town, while also raising and training my own dog, Destro, an energetic and strong-willed Jack Russell Terrier. Destro taught me a lot about how dogs think, and how to form a relationship based on trust and respect. Destro left us at the age of 17, but I still have plenty of love to give dog-kind. Let me love your dog when you can't. I can feed, walk and play with your dog, give oral or topical medications and provide simple medical care. I'm calm and patient, and most dogs respond well to that. I treat every dog with the same care and consideration as if they were my own. Whether you need someone to look in on them while you're out of town, or want to give them a chance to stretch their legs while you're at work, I can help. I also offer in-home care services to cats and small animals. If your cat is sociable, I'll love on them and play with them until they're satisfied, and if not, I'll respect their privacy and do my best to minimize stress while providing the care they need. I'm also experienced at caring for rats, as well as guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small animals. I offer dog-walking and drop-in visit services in the Metairie/Kenner area, as well as River Ridge and Lakeview, and out to Mid City New Orleans, between 7 am and nightfall. I accept same-day bookings for walks and visits, and am always willing to help out with an emergency. If you're interested in house-sitting, please contact me to discuss your needs. I'm a member of Pet Sitters International and Professional United Pet Sitters, and a volunteer with For The Love of Rats Rescue in Walker, LA.

Rachel's become our go-to person for when we need someone to check in on our cats on the regular. She's very reliable and always a joy to work with.

We took a weekend getaway for NYE. Rachel was awesome! Taji's starch was a little upset while we were away, but she kept an eye out, and the big goof is back to his jokester self! As usual, she was great, and I knew he was in good care!

Rachel was great with my two cats while we were away for the week. One of my cats is still a kitten (<1 year old) and we were so worried about leaving him for the first time. We received daily photo updates and returned to two happy cats. I would definitely recommend Rachel to anyone looking for a reliable cat sitter!

Rachel have developed quite a strong bond with Sophie and Colbie. We are thankful to her for being the best pet sitter ever. Our dogs look forward to seeing her soon. ❤️

Information Rachel B. would like to know about your pet

I'd love to get to know your dog. Please share anything you think might help me to do that, including their personality and background, fears, favorite activities, and any medical issues or dietary restrictions. The more information I have about them, the better I can care for them. If you'd like me to walk your dog in your neighborhood, please let me know of any hazards I need to be aware of, such as mean or habitually loose dogs, neighbors who don't like animals, unsafe areas, etc.

A typical day

During a dog walk, I will come to your home and walk with your dog around your own neighborhood, or we can get in my car and drive to a nearby park so your dog can explore. I usually walk dogs one at a time, so I can give each one my full attention, but if you have multiple dogs who enjoy walking together, we can do that (up to 5 dogs.) I can pick your dog(s) up from you and return them to you, or I can let myself in while you're out. I can also feed your dog before I leave. In case of bad weather, walks can be pushed back to a later time with no penalty, or fulfilled as a drop-in visit. During a drop-in visit, I will let myself into your home while you're away and perform whatever tasks are needed to care for your pets. All pets will be given food, prepared according to your instructions, with fresh water. Pets who need medication or minor medical treatment will receive it. Specific activities during a drop-in visit can vary, but always include a chance to go to the bathroom, play, and receive physical affection. Dogs may go for a walk, get snuggles on the sofa, and/or be let out into the yard to play tug, chase, or relax in the sun, depending on their energy level and personality. Cats will have their litter boxes cleaned, and may play and/or get their head and belly rubbed, if they enjoy that. Small animals will have their cage cleaned and be allowed to freeroam in a safe space under close supervision. I'll also bring mail or packages inside, if requested, or change lights and blinds around the house at different times of the day, to make it look lived-in. While I'm in your home, I will always respect your privacy, and I take care to leave your home in the same condition it was when I arrived. Regardless of what service you choose, you will receive a status update with photos to let you know how your babies are doing after each walk or visit.
