K9 Heaven in Hilly Kenilworth

Pet care experience

Attention Sweet Pup! Come enjoy the sunshine with me as I tend to the flowers and hummingbirds in my back garden. If you want a little time to relax in the shade, you can hop up on to the outdoor sofas or on to the hammock and stretch out for a little snooze. If you get lucky, you just may see the bluebird or blacktail swallow butterfly who has been frequenting these parts lately. I love to snuggle, so make yourself cozy and comfortable on the sofas or beds. This is a very peaceful and loving home--there will always be plenty of kisses and cuddles to spare while you are here! To the owner: I am a highly-experienced dog sitter and have loved and cared for dozens of dogs as if they were my own. To take care of my cavalier King Charles spaniel, now passed, was an honor and a privilege and I will feel the same way about your little furry family member. I simply adore the magical company of dogs and my husband does as well. I have dedicated dog blankets and a dog bed in the house with lots of ropes and balls as well as plush, squeaky, crinkly and hard chew toys for your pup to play with. (Blankets and toys are washed after each guest's visit.) Finally, my home is toxin-free as I use all eco-friendly cleaners. I have recently moved to Asheville from New York City where I volunteered in the past as a dog walker for the ASPCA and for BARC Animal Rescue Shelter, both through New York Cares in New York City. As such, I am very comfortable spending time with new dogs, having learned to read their body language and how to make them feel at ease in new situations. I am also a volunteer here in Asheville at Appalacian Wildlife Rescue where I feed and care for wild orphaned animals. I am comfortable giving oral medications (liquid and pill) as well as brushing teeth, if required. I am familiar with finicky eaters and have hand fed many a pup. I keep wholesome treats on hand, but please feel free to bring along their favorite treats and toys as a familiar reward. My yard is not fenced so we will enjoyed leashed walks around the flower-dotted neighborhood. We will look to say hi to Sunny, Kona and Bailey, a few of the local dogs. On extra special days, we will take a field trip to Carrier Park dog run. For fun, we may even learn a new trick or play with a food puzzle! As an important note, we love and respect our neighbors, and I can only sit pups who do not have a habit to bark. I happily accept little visitors up to 20 lbs. And because your furry friend is freely allowed on the furniture, please bring him or her freshly bathed, when possible. Hope to see you soon!

Rachael kept our dog for 6 nights and we are SO pleased. She sent us so many picture and videos, which we loved. Our dog was happy, healthy and smiling upon pickup! We will be using her again in the future.

Rachael was AMAZING with my dog Harry! This was only his second experience with a sitter so I was hopeful he would do ok. Rachael sent updates and daily/nightly check-ins with the CUTEST pictures showing all of the fun they were having. Her and Geoff made Harry feel right at home and made sure he was comfy and having a blast the entire time. They definitely gave him the royal treatment and it is so appreciated!

Information Rachael L. would like to know about your pet

Let me know of any unique behaviors or preferences your dog may have. For example a preference for hard chew toys versus plush toys. Please let me know of any fears or triggers such as: other dogs, cats, strangers, or bikes and skateboards, etc. Please make me aware of any allergies and/or medications. It is also important that I know your pup's bathroom schedule, and how many times a day that s/he typically eliminates. Finally, please advise me of current command/tricks your dog knows as this will make it easier for us to communicate.

A typical day

Indoors, I like to engage dogs by teaching them new tricks or giving them activity puzzles to solve. It is so darling to watch! Outdoors, we will enjoy walks at the pace appropriate for the dog. Some, "wander" and poke about while others are steadfast, focused and cover much ground. I am accustomed to both styles of dog walking. The wide open space of Kenilworth park is a nearby for daily exercise. For longer visits, we will take a trip or two to Carrier Park dog run, Reed Creek Greenway and the grounds at the Biltmore Estate.
