Safety, trust & environment

It is very important to me that your dog(s) feel safe and comfortable in my home throughout their stay. I only accept dogs from one household at a time (or dogs that are already familiar with each other) for this reason. I allow dogs to freely explore the house (under supervision) when they first arrive, and I set up their kennel in a living room corner where they can see me but still have their own space. I love to play with their favorite toys and have plenty of their favorite treats, and I quickly respond when there are any disruptions such as noise or weather. I am happy to discuss any routines or habits that would help them have the best time!

Information Rachael J. would like to know about your pet

I love all breeds and sizes, but I grew up with Cavaliers and would love to care for yours! Please confirm that your dog is fully housebroken and that you will bring their kennel, and tell me about their reactivity to other animals, new people, and being alone for reasonable periods of time. If they have any medications, please supply written instructions and extra doses. I am not comfortable caring for dogs with high separation anxiety or any history of biting.

A typical day

I like to have a variety of familiar and new activities for dogs to enjoy. If they have a puzzle feeder, food dispensing ball, or fillable toy, please bring it with their supplies- it gives them a reminder of home and is a great way to engage their senses and/or extend mealtimes. My fenced-in yard is perfect for playing fetch and exploring new smells, and the streets behind my house have little traffic and are great for walks (there are many other dogs in the neighborhood, so do let me know if your dog is reactive so I can best handle those interactions). In the evening, I love to cozy up with them on my extremely comfortable and durable couch.

Compassionate & experienced

Pet care experience

I have cared for other people's dogs with compassion, attentiveness, and joy for ten years, in addition to growing up with my own dogs. I want every dog to be comfortable with me and in a new space, so I meet them with care, ensure consistency in their routines, watch for any signs of discomfort, and encourage play and relaxation. I am comfortable caring for dogs of every age and size. I have several years of experience with older dogs' needs, including oral and topical medication management and mobility assistance (previously for dogs ranging from 6 pounds to 80 pounds!). I completed the online Fear Free Shelter Program in 2021, which has been particularly helpful for puppies, recent adoptees, and training reinforcement. I live in a house with a fenced in yard, which is perfect for dogs who love to play fetch and explore. While I will be the primary caregiver, I live with my partner who is also experienced with dogs.

Apple had a great weekend stay at Rachael’s! She really enjoyed the large fenced in backyard. Rachael provided updates and pictures throughout the stay, which I so appreciated! Would definitely have Rachael watch Apple again.

Amazing care and loved that my pup had a whole yard to herself. Rachael was very flexible about the time of pickup and made the whole boarding process very easy!

Rachael did an outstanding job of taking care of our dog Allie (AGAIN)! Allie adjusted well to staying with Rachael in her home. Her updates made us feel comfortable that our dog was being well cared for.
