Dog-less Dog Lover

Pet care experience

Hi there! My name is Pilar- I just moved to Denver and am looking to make some four-legged friends! Simply put, dogs have been a huge part of my life since I can remember, and I very much miss having one in my life. From very early on in my upbringing- I was taught the most important lesson that animals are more than pets, they’re family- they give us unconditional love and ask nothing for return. As I see it, the least we can do is advocate for them - showing them the love and compassion in every way we can! Naturally, when I moved away from home after college, I was left with a huge hole in my heart that I would no longer have our family dogs to love on every day. That being said, I am a young professional in a new city- and think the most responsible choice for me at the moment is to wait to adopt a dog of my dog own until I have a better idea of what my work and travel is obligations are going to entail post-COVID. In my determination to have a proper dose of dog without the full-time commitment of owning one- I joined Rover! If you can’t tell by now, I will love and care for your dog like my own. I am very experienced with all ages, sizes, and breeds but I especially love large high-energy dogs as I grew up with Weimarainers! Some of my other favorite breeds include Hound Dogs, German Shorthaired Pointers, and Vizlas although I’m a sucker for any floppy eared friend. I am comfortable with feeding, giving medication (shots included), and basic first-aid. I am also K-9 CPR certified. I work from home three days a week and love spending my weekends being active whether it be hiking, mountain biking, skiing, pilates, or yoga. Often times my favorite way to break up the day is going for walks- which are always made better when I’m in the company of a dog! Needless to say, I am a dog-lover for life and would be so grateful for the opportunity to take care of yours :)! I work from home three days a week- which is great for being able to spend almost all my time with the dog I am sitting on weekdays. Similar to many dogs, i find exercise to be something that is great for my mind and body. I always make a point of getting outside for several walks throughout the day to keep myself productive. I also love having a dog with me while I’m running errands. I even have a special hammock installed in the back of my car to make sure myself and my pet stay safe on the road! Overall, I make a point of spending as much time in the company of the dog I am caring for as I can. I firmly believe dogs are happiest when they get to be with their humans- and strive to make a conscious effort to include any dog in my care into as many daily activities as I can! I live in a large two-story condo in a quiet, smaller building nestled in the Golden Triangle area. Most people in my complex own the unit they live in and several even have pets if their own! Having so many animal lovers in the building has been a catalyst for getting to know my neighbors in addition to fostering a community based on mutual respect and understanding especially if a dog I’m sitting has certain behavioral quirks that need to be accommodated. I generally give my immediate neighbors a heads up I will be dog-sitting ahead of time so we they know when a new dog is in in the building and if they need to let me know when they are in any common areas so I can avoid those with a dog that may not get along with others. Alternatively if I am caring for a super social dog- this communication system has worked great for the purpose of setting up a time for the dogs to play in the communal courtyard. The entire building is very secure with a large main gate with a code, a front lobby door code, an elevator keypad and a hallway keypad in addition to the main lock on my front door. I am very familiar with ‘counter-surfing’ dogs and make a point of not leaving anything out that can be reached on the counter tops. The same goes for house plants, expensive shoes, or anything else than I would not want chewed or damaged. My condo has a ton of open space to accommodate dogs of all sizes. I have a secure patio area too for dogs who enjoy sunbathing on the warm deck while overlooking the garden area below. I am extremely detail- oriented and meticulous about making sure the dog-owner’s instructions are followed exactly. Having also cared for senior and special needs dogs- I understand certain situations require around the clock attention and have no problem staying up late, getting up early, and even waking up one or several times a nig to to make sure all the dog’s are cared for and comfortable at all times.

Pilar was very accommodating in adjusting to drop my large dog off for an extended stay. Even requesting to pick Dwight up late night was no problem. Will definitely use Pilar again to watch my dog when needed.

Pilar is awesome! She has great communication and sent us regular updates the entire time we were away. She is very understanding to the needs and sensitivities of our pup. We could relax knowing both he and our home were in great hands!

I cannot sing Pilar’s praises enough! She was so patient, understanding, and caring with our Mochi, who has separation anxiety. She took him on a long walk, gave him peanut butter, and sent us periodic updates with pictures. By the end of the night he gave her a kiss, which demonstrates how much trust and confidence she built between the two of them because he doesn’t normally give out kisses like that. I can’t wait to have Pilar over again to watch Mochi.

Information Pilar F. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your dog has any special needs or behaviors I need to be aware of before I take care of him or her. I have quite a bit of experience with sky, skiddish, and/or aggressive dogs and have found the best way to make sure everyone around me including myself and the dog in my care remains safe and happy is to be prepared ahead of time what to expect!

A typical day

I make a point of personalizing my day to whatever dog I am with. Whether it be walks around the neighborhood , to the local park, or longer, more strenuous hikes, I’m always game for some sort of activity! That being said, I am also perfectly ok taking a more relaxed approach for an older or less active dog who prefers staying at home, snuggling on the couch, or just hanging out for some loving good company. I love running errands with a dog, and have a special hammock in the back of my car so i can be sure everyone rides safely.
