Dogs recognize me as a dog lover
Pet care experience
I adopted a mixed breed 6 month old homeless dog in my early 20's. We had 16 years together and she was the love of my life. I learned about medicating when necessary and how to take care of her in the various stages of her life. Recently I spent a number of years being a daytime sitter to a friend's dog while he completed school. That made me want more dog time. More recently I did some daytime caring for new neighbors who have two large dogs, four cats and a tortoise. The dogs almost knock me over with glee when I come over, and the cats actually run over to me, too. A few months ago I learned from a friend about Rover.com while passing by his house. He was on the front porch with a darling little dog who was too sweet for words. All I had to do was complete the fence around my large backyard, and now I'm a Rover-ite too. My communication style and routine for pet sitting are based on the individual dogs I'm caring for. I get certain instructions re. feeding, etc. from the owner and I let the dog tell me what he/she needs. The routine varies from critter to critter. Each communicates differently. I have good availability since I work at home and have next door neighbors, Al and Kyle, who are around to help, should I need it. they have two cats and a lovable boxer. they have a great history caring for animals. I have a roomy home with a fenced yard with a large running around space and nooks & crannies to explore. Please note these two items: While I have plenty of room for small and most medium sized dogs, I prefer dogs 30 lbs. and under. Also, I'm currently going through chemotherapy and occasionally my energy level isn't up to its usual self. Along with this, I live in a hilly area and leash walking can be difficult. The yard is large with plenty of room to roam and sniff. And I am good for two walks a day. For dogs who like to play fetch, my yard is ideal and a tennis playing friend keeps me supplied with all the balls we need!
Reviews
Great as always!
Phyllis is so great with Roxy. We have been incredibly satisfied with each of Roxy's stays. Leaving her with Phyllis feels like we are leaving her with family because she is so careful with her. I feel comfortable leaving Rox for days at a time.
Phyllis was a great dog sitter. She is so kind-hearted and a big dog lover. My dog is a rescue and she doesn't bond with everyone, but she really took to Phyllis and became fast friends with her. By the pictures she sent, I could tell my girl was happy and in very good hands. Phyllis made sure to ask all the important questions before we left Mindy with her so she could care for her properly. We will definitely book with her again!
This was Elke's first overnight with Phyllis and both seemed happy the next day, when I picked up my dog. I would definitely book Phyllis again. She cared about Elke's comfort and well-being, while keeping a sense of order and balance in her home.

Information Phyllis P. would like to know about your pet
I have no breed preferences. “Good behavior” (even the ability to come when called, which not all dogs have mastered) is a plus. It's great to have a dog who is responsive to basic commands like "Here, boy/girl, sit, down, etc." No worries – there won’t be any IQ tests. My house is roomy, but aisles between furniture, etc. can be narrow, so I lean toward small dogs as a preference – primarily for their comfort and ease of movement. Of course, medium sized dogs are equally welcome and equally loved. If your dog has any specific personality "oddities," it's helpful to know about them in advance.
A typical day
My neighborhood is quite walk-able and there is plenty of dog company around should your dog wish to socialize! There's a small college campus nearby with large fields that my dog friends and I have made use of. I have a large backyard with different areas offering varied environments including a redwood deck with a small garden off of it, and further back there's a large lawn w/fruit trees, a patio and various nooks & crannies to explore. It's a great place to play fetch or just to sack out. I work at home, so aside from occasional errands, etc., I'm home all day.
