I used to watch dogs for friends during my working years and now that I have more time I can do it through Rover. One of my fondest memories of dog-sitting was when a friend had just moved to a farm and had to be at work right away. I was able to be there during those first few days so his elderly Lab wouldn't be alone. I would walk the Lab around the property on his leash close to me, inside and outside, with plenty of time to sniff in every nook and cranny. I talked to him and petted him along the entire route. That first night I laid down on the floor next to his doggie bed and played lullabies softly on my phone for him while my hand was on his back so he could feel me near him for comfort. I had my own dogs for 17 years, a Beagle and an English Cocker Spaniel. I trained and cared for them both from the age of 6 weeks on. I dealt with a couple of surgeries and nursed them back to health successfully--experience with drops, pills, etc. My dogs and I moved all over the world with the U.S. Army. I designed a successful weight-loss program, that was commended by my veterinarian, when my Beagle was having too much of a good thing! I like to cuddle, play fetch, or just let a sleeping dog lie.
