Canine Companionship (and more!)

Pet care experience

A tired dog is a happy dog. I enjoy taking long walks and hikes with a canine companion. And also, some Netflix and chill time as well.

Paul was great to work with! We have one reactive dog and one blind sweetheart. Paul took the time to visit in advance and meet them both so everyone was comfortable before his stay. He learned their quirks and commands so he could work with them while we were away. Looking forward to working with Paul in the future!

Paul has stayed in our house and taken care of our dogs countless times over the last 12+ years, often for weeks at a time. He's trustworthy, communicates well and knows how to deal with all the challenging things that can happen with pets and Vermont homes. He understands animals, recognizes the importance of getting them exercise and, most importantly, our dogs love him!

Paul helped us out on short notice when our other petcare fell through. He was reliable and great with our pets. Kept in contact with us the whole time and left the house just as clean if not cleaner than we left it. Our plane home was cancelled and he even stayed longer than he was supposed to to help us out. We will definitely be using him in the future!

We have worked with various pet caregivers over the years and never found a trustworthy, dependable fit until we met Paul. He was referred to us through a good friend and has been our primary pet caregiver since! When we are away we know our pets (dog, cats, guinea pigs and chickens) and home are in kind, competent hands. He sends us updates and photos, which I really enjoy and appreciate, and he makes sure things are left in order for us to return home to. We definitely recommend Paul to you and anyone else that asks us if we know a great pet sitter!!

I try and keep the dog/pets on your schedule. I'm not always able to do so, but I try and keep it as close as possible. My other gigs usually are shorter work days (4-7 hrs) when watching your pets so I can let them out before they burst, and I have time to take them on at least a morning walk and a late afternoon walk.

Information Paul M. would like to know about your pet

Their personalities. I'm going to be their new housemates for X amount of days, and I'm responsible for their care. I want to make a good connection when we meet. I want to know their dispositions, their quirks, their triggers.

A typical day

I think a lot of dogs are like teenagers. They need a lot of stimuli coming into their brains, and they need exercise to blow off that energy. I really do like exploring with dogs who are good off-leash, and listen to commands and whistling. I do a lot of wild mushroom foraging and have taken dogs out for hours while I search. High energy dogs who need to be on leash will still get a good amount of exercise; whether it be their daily walks around the block, or I could take them to new environs that would pique their interest and curiosity. I have also dealt with dogs who are a bit more unruly who may need to stay within a fenced yard to play fetch or ball. Or who are not very good on leash, but I would try to take them someplace that is more peaceful, and without other dogs, or people to distract them. I also have no problem taking care of lazy dogs, or elderly. I would try to entice the lazy one into a longer walk, or find that one thing they like to do. Same with the elderly ones. They would still get snuggle attention (they all do!); with special attention to the elderly dogs needs.
