I have owned dogs all of my life, both small and large. I am great with them. My children love dogs and they have been around them their entire life. They are just as gentle as I am. I have a decent size back yard, although it is not fenced in, your fur baby will love it. I work during the week but I am home everyday on my lunch, so your pup will get the attention and potty breaks they need. You will have absolutely no need to worry.
