Oliver is family, and normally I would not write a testimonial for family as it may be biased. However, in this particular field I am one of the top private K9 handlers in the state. I hold several awards and certifications through the National Police Canine Association and have nearly a decade of experience in my field. I am the regional senior handler and supervisor of my program. I currently house 2 very high drive protection and narcotics detection, police certified K9's. Oliver has lived with both of them for years. In addition, our family pet weighing in at 15 pounds runs the pack. Oliver has learned through our pack interactions the value of a positive, peaceful, firm, consistent and fair command presence with dogs. My retired K9 will walk with no one else but Oliver besides me. The level of trust and peace, trust and consistent energy needed to walk a police trained dog is not for the initiate. This is not to be confused with heavy corrections or abuse, we utilize positive reinforcement as our training base. In addition to having the proper nurturing attitude towards new dogs, Oliver has an innate sense of compassion that translates well into the kind of obedience training required for police and military level dogs. With our home pet, I had Oliver train her using operant conditioning with positive reinforcement to instill good leash manners, good social behaviors, and a low defense drive despite having a slightly abusive past before our home. Through consistency and determination, Oliver allowed our dog to blossom into the social, happy and well trained dog she is today. Oliver knows the different tools available and how to use them to walk or work with any dog minus the hardest of cases that require rehabilitation, not simply basic training. Caring for and walking someone's pets, someone's furry family, is the life we have been leading with some of the highest drive, highest energy dogs in the state (yes, one's a Malinois) for a decade.
