I’ve had pets, of all kind, my entire life, I also used to walk my neighbours German shepherd while she was at work. I have done pet/house sitting for my partner's sister, looking after her dog, two cats and bearded dragon.

I wouldn’t let a dog off a leash unless in a secure area where dogs are allowed to run free and unless they have full recall with permission from the owner. In the home I would ask if there’s anything to be weary of, such as lose fence post that could allow the animal to escape through, etc.

It’s important for me to know about any special needs the dog may have, whether it’s trauma, medication, etc. How the dog reacts to other dogs is also important as well as commands it knows, especially if it knows stay and to come back.
A typical day
I’d take them on long walks, letting them get their exercise. If I could, I’d take them to a park where they can run, I’d play with them, with whatever their favourite toy may be, and let them meet other dogs. I’d give them as much attention as possible, through pets and play time so that they’d never be bored.
