While I grew up with dogs and cats (and some cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, and goats!), I fell in love with dogs when I became an official pet parent at the age of 22 with a 2 year old chihuahua. This particular chihuahua came from a mistreated home, so I learned how to train with patience, love, and more patience! I then gained another chihuahua (a rescue) at the very tender age of 8 weeks old, and learned a lot more about puppy care. A few years later I added two Maltipoos to my family (both siblings at 12 weeks old). I had 4 dogs ranging from 5-9lbs each. During this time, I also took in a Pekapoo and a Bichon for about 2 years (family friends in need of some help). I had 6 dogs under 1 roof living happily together - I loved it! I have had the privilege of watching 3 of my dogs grow from puppyhood to their golden years. I also have experience with senior dogs with medical needs. My oldest chihuahua was on 3 different heart medications for her remaining 3 years before crossing the rainbow bridge. I am great with giving medication to dogs and do not shy away from ensuring medicine is taken on time. I maintain up-to-date medical appointments, vaccines, grooming, and have had more than my fair share of emergency situations. While I love the playfulness of puppies, I have truly grown to love my senior dogs and understand their needs are just as important (if not more) than a puppy. I am patient with "potty" time, meal times, and understand the need to earn their trust.
