Doggy fun and safety first.
Pet care experience
My life has always centered around animals - I was the kid that stray cats and dogs followed home. I'm not sure if they gravitate towards me or me to them, probably both! I went on to study animal behavior and am now finishing my PhD in Zoology. I specialize in chimpanzee behavioral ecology and spent several years studying them in Uganda. My field work required 12 hours a day of careful observation and recording of natural animal behaviors - as a result, I'm incredibly vigilant when it comes to animals in my care—nothing goes unnoticed! During my time in Uganda I acquired 3 dogs of my own and also volunteered with USPCA (Uganda's only animal shelter)where I helped in the rescue and rehabilitation of many dogs. My own dogs were sickly strays which needed to be nursed back to health and each has their own little quirks and stories to tell. And of course when I moved back to the States they ALL had to come with me! We moved to MN in winter and had to acclimate to the cold and culture together. The dogs did great (!) once they had cozy jackets! The many dogs I worked with over the years has provided me with a great deal of hands on experience on a variety of behavioral issues - especially anxiety, fear and reactive behaviors. I’m happy share my experiences and knowledge and enjoy work with "special needs" dogs and their owners on any challenging behaviors in an effort to reach their goals. I think walks are so important to building a happy confident dog. Many people with reactive dogs may worry about taking them for walks or allowing others to walk them. These are some of the most rewarding dogs for me to walk. And I'm eager to work with your dog on walks, no matter if she's dog or-people reactive or has leash aggression. I put safety and reward measures in place and work closely with clients on how their dog is progressing. I work from home, which allows me to spend more time with dogs in my care. And also affords me the flexibility to be able accommodate a variety of care schedules. During your dog’s stay, they’ll “join my pack” so there will be plenty of play and social time! If your dog doesn't enjoy the company of other dogs, that's ok too. I have partitions in place in the yard and in the house, which allows pups who prefer their own space, or who want quiet time, to still feel right at home. All dog are kept under close watch during their stay and are never left together while unsupervised. If I have to run a quick errand, I’ll put each dog in their own room or kennel for everyone’s security and safety. I look forward to meeting your dog and hearing their story!

Information Nicole S. would like to know about your pet
Let me know if your dog has issues with anxiety or reactive behavior. I’ve rehabilitated several dogs with these challenges, and would be happy to help you in training around these issues. I know lots of tips I can pass on to you. I'd also like to know if your dog is kennel trained and where they like to sleep. And if they have any allergies or need any medication.
A typical day
It all depends on what your dog wants! That could mean swimming in my plastic kiddie pool, lounging outdoors on a Coolaroo bed, walking around the neighborhood, playing in my fenced-in backyard with my three dogs, and of course, cuddling! Whatever we do, rest assured that you’ll get plenty of photos of your dog having fun during their stay. I also recognize that many cat owners need care for more than one kitty and I'm happy to care for multiple cats. When you book care for 1 kitty, I'm happy to care for additional cats in your home at no extra cost.
