care above the norm

Pet care experience

I am 21 years of age and going to everett community college for my criminal justice/ psych degree. I love working with dogs. I worked at a dog boarding facility for 7 months and also have 5 animals of my own. I have been working with animals for 5+ years. I can work with dogs, cats, reptiles, rodents, and farm animals. I can also offer dog grooming services, I have done dog grooming for 4 years. Why I love dog sitting I owned my first dog when I was three and she became my best friend! I have loved dogs ever since and love adopting dogs in need or rescue animals. I have had 4 rescue dogs and 2 non-rescue. I volunteered at PAWS and a Snoqualmie dog rescue, also have worked at a dog boarding facility in Edmonds for the past 7 months. My experience administering medication I am very comfortable and have the knowledge to administer shots and any medication.

I would not recommend Nicole as a sitter, unfortunately. We hired her because she didn't have prior obligations with job or school. Our main focus for the stay was to care for our pets and follow the schedule we set. We are admittedly, slightly needy with our expectations as our pets are spoiled. We don't have children - so our lives revolve around ensuring our pet's happiness. During the first interview, we informed Nicole we had a camera inside our house (as a nudge to expecting our requests to be followed). We also asked if she would anticipate having any guests. She said no. Our main requests were that the dogs not be kept in their kennels for longer than 6 hours a day (they are both older and can only hold their bladders for so long, and are used to being out most of the time). We scheduled a second visit with her a few days before our departure. She didn't show up. This caused some concern, clearly. I messaged her to remind her. At 10:30p she replied and stated she didn't realize what day it was an apologized. We rescheduled for the next night. This left me with a bad taste, so to speak. But - as we were now 3 days from our trip, it was a little tough to find a replacement. (She was a few minutes late the following night) During the stay - we checked our cameras to ensure things were running smoothly. Our bird was not fed on time and was not put to bed on time, as requested in our instructions. 4 days our dogs were in their kennels for about 6 hours, while she was gone. Then, we see a man enter our home. He let our dogs out into the backyard (alone; we asked that they always be accompanied outside). This man proceeded to open our cabinets and refrigerator. Because of camera placement, we aren't sure where else he looked during his short visit. I messaged Nicole immediately and asked who this was. She said it was her boyfriend. She was on a personal errand and it was taking longer than expected. She apologized for "poor planning". Total that day, the dogs were kept in their kennels for over 11 hours. Two days later - I noticed she put the dogs in their kennels at 9p and went upstairs. Her boyfriend arrived at 2:40p and let them outside and then went upstairs with them. The dogs were in their kennels for almost 6 hours while she was in the house. I messaged her regarding this and she said it was because she didn't feel well and put them in their kennel so she could "shower and stuff". We were gone for 10 nights. This aspect become so stressful that we called the airline to move our flight and shorten our trip by 4 nights. We weren't able to do so because there were no flights available for us. We had a friend go over and talk with Nicole to reset the expectations and things did improve from there. Again, we hired Nicole because we knew we were needy and wanted someone that could dedicate themselves to our pets and our home. In reviewing footage - it seemed that she was not even an animal person. She barely spoke to the dogs at all. She didn't show much affection to them. When we returned home, one of our dogs had a sore on his leg. We'll bring him to the vet to have this checked out. But - there was no explanation of this injury. It was a very disappointing experience. She is only getting two stars because our pets were alive and the house wasn't burned down. On another note - I was in contact with Rover during my stay because of the issues and concern and they were very supportive and helpful. They are a great company.

Nicole does a wonderful job with Savannah. Savannah is very difficult to take care of since she is blind, partially deaf and has some dementia issues. Staying at home is best for Savannah since she is used to her own house and yard and with Nicole watching her we don't have to worry.

Not very responsible . Had a problem with a bedroom rug being wet and Nicole was very evasive as to what happened. We now have to replace the whole bedroom rug. A very expensive experience for us. Not happy!!!!

Nicole came to our home to watch our two cats and dog. During the meet and greet she was friendly and asked some intelligent questions about our animals. She asked us to leave her with the vet numbers and let the vet know we would be out of town and to give the vet any payment information in case of an emergency. That is something I would not have thought of myself and was pleased she brought it up. While away, I texted off and on and requested pictures of my furry babies. She usually responded in a short amount of time. Upon return, the animals and my home all seemed healthy and happy. My only criticism is I would have liked a little more communication via text messaging/videos/skype. As stated before, she always responded when I asked for something, but I would have liked to have had her send me more information a couple times a day just as part of her procedure and for my own comfort. Overall, we were pleased with Nicole and wouldn't hesitate to use her again.

I would like to know if your dog has medical conditions or has had any surgeries. This is not a make it or break it question! Although if something goes wrong or the dog starts acting weird it will help me better asses the situation. I have no strong preferences but i do take a shine to corgis, malamutes, shepards (German, Australian, ect.), and great danes.
