Specialize special needs cats/dogs

Pet care experience

I've spent years fostering special needs cats and dogs. I can give sub q fluids, administer pills and shots, monitor for warning signs, express bladders, put on diapers, etc. I take my own dogs on hikes often. I have fostered and own dogs from 3 lbs on up including blind and deaf dogs as well as dogs with heart issues. I have fostered incontinent cats, CH cats, cats with mobility issues/paralysis, felv, renal failure, cats with different cancers, etc. I work every other week and go to school part time, so i have very limited availability every 7 days, but the other 7 days I'm home or in and out of my house often and I usually take my dogs with me wherever I go whether it's to a friend's house or hiking or just running errands (I don't take them if it's ridiculously hot and I'll be longer than 5 min, but I do have a huge sunroof that opens all the way and a remote start so I can leave my car running). My own cats with special needs limit my freedom to a max of 10 hrs away from my house, but I have a roommate so my animals are never alone more than like 5 or 6 hrs in the house. Any dogs boarded in my house must be cat friendly, I do have cats who LOVE dogs and I have dogs who love dogs and love to play. I have an aussie collie mix who is blind and about 3 years old who loves to play, she's about 35 lbs and I have an aussie mix who is a little more mellow but also loves to play and he is about 65 lbs. Boarded dogs will only be around 3 non-special needs cats. My mom is home on weekends and evenings, so dogs wont be alone more than 5-6 hrs on weeks I work, and won't be alone more than a few hrs on weeks i don't work. I do not foster dogs, only cats and all of my dogs are fixed, vaccinated and healthy. We have a 6' tall solid wood fence. Backyard is grass.

Thanks for providing this great service, allowing me to attend an immediate family funeral without worry for my sweet Shih Tzu, Juliet. With special needs and separation anxiety, she adapted very well to Nicole's household. Being a new pet owner, I also learned from Nicole how to better take care of Juliet. Thanks again...

Nicole is the best kind of animal lover and caregiver. She is incredibly empathetic and compassionate. She establishes an almost instant connection with an animal, genuinely loving each and every one. She expands on that connection by bringing in her vast medical experience. Through many years of fostering as well as owning many, many special needs animals herself, she has great skill and knowledge. I've known Nicole for many, many years and am endlessly amazed by her dedication to and love for animals. Nicole is undaunted by special needs and unfailingly gives her best - always. I have trusted her with my own special needs animals and sincerely recommend her as a caregiver for yours.

Nicole is the only other person in the world who I would trust my pets with besides my immediate family. I would leave them with her before I even boarded them at a vet. She is really experienced with special needs pets and is quick to realize if something is "off."

I have known Nicole for a few years. We met when I needed a babysitter for my 2 foster kittens while I was going to be out of town. My foster kittens at that time were still bottle feeding and I was having a very difficult time finding someone who knew how to bottle feed kittens. I was given Nicole's information and entrusted my fosters with her. She sent me constant updates and notes on how they were doing over the 2 week period I was gone. Since then we have become close friends over our love for animals and fostering. Nicole is tenacious, smart, kind, and will do anything and everything she can to help animals. She takes in animals others have given up hope on, doting on them and giving them a fighting chance at a better life, or at least a loved life before they cross to the other side. Her passion for animals is unmatched. She would be an incredible asset to Rover. Her experience would be a great benefit for Rover. Nicole owns a blind dog that she has trained to follow her on hikes. She respects animals and pays great attention to detail to their well being and health. She is trustworthy and accountable always letting you know what is going on with your animals.

Information Nicole H. would like to know about your pet

I prefer to watch smaller dogs because occasionally i do have a special needs cat upstairs which could be accidentally hurt by large clumsy dogs. I'm good with high energy dogs on my off weeks, low energy on weeks I work. All dogs must be fixed and good with other cats and dogs, also if I'm going to run or hike with them, they must be decent on a leash.

A typical day

I hike with my own dogs often up millcreek usually, sometimes other dog friendly parks or trails. Play tug of war, throw balls.
