My very first animal was a cat that my parents got me and my siblings when I was four years old. Thereafter, there was a barrage of animals that were brought into my home; including newts, frogs, turtles and a variety of tiny fish. Just this past year, I spent the majority of my time in Toronto living with relatives who own two Chinese Crested Powder Puffs. They are known to have a difficult temperament and are protective of their owners. Dealing with them on a daily basis was tough, but it didn’t significantly deter me and with persistence I was able to break through and experience the love they had to offer. After a few weeks I was able to become one of the primary caretakers of the dogs, doing things such as the walking, feeding, playing with them, brushing them and even taking them to the vet when required. I was also able to enforce proper behaviors through conditioning and I was surprised to learn how smart the dogs were. Reflecting back on my time with them, I realized how easy it was to forget any personal struggles or worries that occurred during my everyday life. This realization was almost profound for me and I think that is why so many people have pets. It is unconditional love from another living being and after all that’s all anyone really wants. Therefore, it would be a privilege to take care of your pet/s because it is a great thing to detach from the stress we all experience as we meander our way day to day. I will be happy and you will be happy because you will know your pet is with someone who cares for them and I also come at a good price!
