Pet care experience
Because my father was a dog-breeder and trainer, I have been steeped, from a very young age, in the life of interacting with and caring for dogs. As an only child, this was even more pronounced, as our dogs were always my siblings. I have handled and cared for dogs with breeds ranging from Doberman Pinchers (which my dad bred and trained) to Pit Bulls, Standard Poodles, Chows, Labradors, Aquitas, German Shepards, and German Short Haired Pointers, and pay a lot of attention to the ways that breed affects temperament. I specialize in medium-large sized dogs, and breeds stereotyped as "aggressive" do not scare me (in fact, I have a special affection for these misunderstood creatures!). I have experience not only walking, playing with, and sitting for dogs. I am equipped to administer medicine, and handle emergencies as well. In my history with animals, I have broken up fights between dogs without any major injuries, and I have also been lucky enough to midwife one of my dogs through birth! I work with the understanding that every single dog has its own spirit that comes with its own personality traits, idiosyncrasies, fears, and desires. I am willing to work with you to ensure that your dog is cared for as the unique individual that he or she is. I am particularly well suited to care for rescue animals that have latent emotional issues and post-traumatic stress. I am kind, slow moving, gentle, and very sensitive to their particular needs and anxieties.
Reviews
Nia was amazing! Communication was super easy and Jack was really relaxed and happy when I came home from a week-long trip. I would absolutely book a stay with Nia again!
Nia was a kind, attentive, and responsible sitter for my Gracie! When I returned from my trip, it was clear that Gracie had been well taken care of. I would definitely hire Nia again, and refer her enthusiastically to anyone who needs pet-sitting or walking.
Nia is the consummate dog lover! She has owned dogs for her entire life, and is devoted to making their lives happy, comfortable, and satisfying. I think she had her own dog, Onyx, from the time he was 6 weeks old until she had to put him down about twelve years later. Onyx was like her child - he was unconditionally loved, cared for, and treated superbly to his last moments on earth (Nia sang to him as he crossed over). I would leave my two dogs with Nia any time and know that their food and water needs will be amply met, their medicine will be administered responsibly, they will be walked, and they will be treated with the utmost care. The biggest compliment I can give Nia is that she is like a "dog whisperer." She connects with them, and they do with her ... you will not be disappointed!
