Customized Canine Care!
Pet care experience
Yes, I use a wheelchair and sometimes forearm crutches due to my disability, but don't think that means I can't take excellent care of your dog. I am a very active person. I seek adventure of all kinds, and I'm a highly experienced dog handler and trainer. Dog Training: I have trained dogs for over 20 years for a variety of situations (film/TV, stage, house obedience, advanced obedience, Rally, Freestyle dancing, advanced tricks, Service Dog work, and more!). I love helping dogs feel more confident in their daily environment. Socialization: I worked in a dog daycare facility where I was solely responsible for play time and socialization of groups of up to 30 dogs. Pet-sitting: I have done both in-home pet sitting and visitation-based pet sitting for over 20 years for a variety of clients.
Reviews
Nerissa knows dogs! They respect her and follow her lead. My dog thinks she’s just the best friend he could have (besides me! ).
Narissa: Especially great communicator, paid attention to detailed instructions, was loving toward our pets, sent nice updates, left the house in order. Perfect! We’re impressed!
Nerissa is always so thoughtful with Pierre. Her photos and visit summaries always make me feel comfortable and reassured.
Nerissa completely exceeded my previous experiences with dog walkers. She totally gets the importance of ensuring a dog's safety and well-being by keeping"tabs" on me to be sure I arrived back home safely. She has an emergency plan if you don't let her know you made it home safe. She is friendly, professional, respectful of your home and truly loves animal. She even responded when I needed to make last minute change to the booking to have my pup taken out 3 hours early!! She is Just amazing and puts my mind at ease
About Nerissa C.
Communication
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I believe in maintaining an animal's routine and rules as much as possible in its owner's absence. I work to establish trust, but also boundaries.
Information Nerissa C. would like to know about your pet
I prefer to know a dog's age and breed, training history, health history (UTD on shots), and socialization. I'll work with any dog unless they have a bite history. If they are fear reactive or fear aggressive to anything in the environment, I must have permission to train the dog to wear a muzzle comfortably on walks. I must also be allowed to train them to use the best tools to keep them, other dogs, and the general public safe.
A typical day
Although most walks will be based near the dog's residence, I will make sure that 1-2 times a week the dog gets the chance to go on walks in a more natural setting. The walks will teach manners with structured sniffing and potty breaks, as well as practicing calm leash manners and handler focus. At home, the dogs will have structured play time, as well as cuddle time, and grooming time for health and bonding. I enjoy teaching dogs games like "find it" where they get to use their brain and nose which is doubly enriching.

As someone working remotely part-time, generally I should be able to be flexible to the unique scheduling needs of you and your pets. I believe in open communication to work out what will work best for everyone involved.
