My first dog was a rescue named Duffy. They found him along a road. He had two dog bites on his head, he shook often, hid in my closet the first week, didn't bark, and ran the other direction when dogs came near. He definitely wasn't the typical dog you would gravitate towards when considering adoption. The foster mom gave me the option of returning him after a month but 3 days in I fell in love. It was a long road to recovery and somewhere along the way Duffy taught me what unconditional love meant and eventually he became my best friend. We spent ten amazing years together. We went on long walks, ran trails, enjoyed beaches, visited numerous parks, played in the snow, etc... So many amazing memories. It was absolutely heartbreaking losing him. Fast-forward to now, I've been fortunate enough to learn so much more about love from five additional rescue dogs that we've adopted through the years. Currently I have three, all mutts. Each one with their own beautiful personality.
