I have 10 years experience dog sitting in New York City with a reputable and long standing dog sitting and child care agency, "Babysitters Guild", and I have 2 years experience in Costa Rica with the local paws foster care system, taking care of dogs (and cats) in need of a temporary home until adoption. I acquired the love of my life "Lux", my Chorkie (Yorkie Chihuaua mix) while I was there and he has brought so much fun and laughter into my life and the lives that surround me. I am so thankful for him. He's 5 now, and he knows how to sit, shake, stay, speak, come, high five, lie down, roll over, fetch, and drop - with or without treats. He's fast as a bullet and his favorite games are "fetch-keep-away" with his favorite blue rubber ball, and when he discovered squirrels here, he fell in love. So hunting and chasing them around the yard never gets old. (Monkeys just aren't as exciting as squirrels!) He is also a world traveler and travels with me often to his home country, Costa Rica. He is the most quiet and well behaved traveler and people are always shocked to learn that there was a dog on board the plane. It just so happens that small spaces are his favorite. Under the seat of the plane, under the bed, or under the couch, it's all the same to him. Cozy. And when in Costa Rica, he fetches coconuts on the beach instead. His blue ball is much too precious to get lost on the beach! And besides it's much more exotic to fetch a coconut, lets face it. He's in the limelight on the beach, with people and other dogs. I have to watch him like a hawk and always have a leash ready as there are big dogs often on the loose and he needs vigilant protecting from "strangers". People steal dogs often in Costa Rica, too, and I wouldn't be surprised if a large bird had a go at him! Most often I keep him on leash at the beach unless I feel it's very safe, like when he's on a playdate with his girlfriend "Arenita", and still, I never let him out of my site. I have a happy dog, I am acutely aware of his needs and I care for him very consciously to keep him feeling his best. We take long walks daily, we run together, and I check in with him and I react as necessary to his body language. I love him immensely. I understand the love between a dog and it's owner and it is so precious. Naturally, I will love and care for your dog like I love and care for my own. I love dogs of all sizes, I am most comfortable with small to medium sized dogs given my weight and size, but a very large dog with a more relaxed nature I could handle. I have walked a few strong rottweilers on the beach in costa rica successfully. But I had a long lead for back up, which was necessary given their strength. So... I am up for a challenge, not intimidated at all by a dogs size, I can handle a bit of muscle in a large dog. And I am the type that will let a dog lick my face, not sure if it's a dominance tactic or not, but I prefer to believe that they are kisses (I really think they give kisses and express love and affection that way!)
