Not an owner, but a great uncle!!

Pet care experience

Though I've been around pets since childhood, I've been working with animals since about 16 years of age. From working in boarding kennels to veterinarian offices to even handling/training wildlife in zoological settings, I've worked with animals at their best and worst. Most recently, I've performed extended in-home pet care over the winter season, multiple years.

Nate was an excellent house and dog sitter. We came back to house in better shape than we left it and our pups were well loved over the four nights that he stayed with them. I highly recommend!

Nathan was great with our pups and gave them a fabulous weekend while we were away. Would definitely work with him again!

I’ve known Nathan a long time. He has taken cat of my cat a number of times. I know she was in good hands. She would cuddle with him even when I was present. She is not an easy going feline but Nathan always kept her calm and happy. I would love to have him care for her now but we are too far apart. I’ve seen him while he was caring for other pets. A playful dog was no problem. He had plenty of energy to keep up. They always seemed to listen to him and follow his commands.

Nathan (Nate) is ball of positive energy. While raising my German Shepherd puppy who had an endless tank of energy, I had difficulty balancing a full-time highly stressful job and paying enough attention to my brand new puppy. After a few walks with my dog, I realized that Nate could keep up with her as well as give her the type of attention that I was just too exhausted to give her at the end of a hard day. Once He had created a relationship with her, she would get so excited to see him and I would look forward to her coming home from his walks / runs exhausted and blissfully sweet. At one point in time after a few years of Nate working with Esme (my German Shepherd) she was used to long hikes and runs and was in amazing shape. I was sad that he moved out of our area and Esme certainly misses him. Nate is incredibly honest and reliable as well as naturally able to connect with dogs of all energy levels. I can't recommend him enough.

In passive care (i.e. walks and playdates), I tend not to be too worried about strict timeframes. If we're having fun, I like to keep having fun with my furry friends. If pet owners are open to it, I like to take my friends on adventures out of the ordinary, hikes and river swims or walks around the park. I think we all need loving companions and without my own pets to take up my love/energy, I've got plenty to spare. When it comes to in home care, I've likewise few commitments or distractions to keep me from being around to give comfort to your babies while you're away. My previous clients found themselves surprised by an extra-clean home when they arrived months later and new skills added to their pup's repertoire. If I can leave a place or pet better off than when I arrive, I try to give it a little extra effort.

Information Nathan O. would like to know about your pet

Knowing your pets comfort zones and what edges we can push is important to know for me. Not every pet wants to go exploring and not every owner wants us adventuring in "the beyond". I'm absolutely willing to look past what I like to do with animals and do what needs to be done to keep your pet happy and healthy. If that is medical care, been there. If that's indoor play, all for it. If socialization with people or other animals is off-limits, let's make the best of our time 1-on-1. Your pet is the priority.

A typical day

I love to get pets outta the house and explore the world around us. Whether that means going to their favorite dogpark to hang out with friends or head for the nearest (or farthest) trail, it's great to see animals experience something new. If your pup/kitty is a bit more of an indoor buddy, playing with toys or watching their favorite shows are just as fun. Being present for them and playful to their own limits is super enriching for me.

I currently work part time at a climbing gym and am transitioning out of a second job. Finding clients who can be consistent with their pet care needs is a + as I like to create relationships that keep me busy and keep you active with your free time. I've got time to spare if you have jobs for me to do.
