I have always loved animals (I've had fish, smaller animals, rabbits, and a dog)... they are not considered pets to me, but rather another family member and I love them just the same. One thing that I love to do if the owners wish is to send the owner a real-time photo(s) of their family members while they're in my care if the owner doesn't mind. It often relieves the anxiety and stress of "What if something's wrong?". It helps you feel connected to your family member, and you can rest easy knowing that he or she is doing just fine. I've had previous experience with combination house/dog sitting for many years, as well as daily drop-ins and walks only. This does not include my own family's baby, a full grown Chihuahua Dachshund, Ginger. I've done full time overnight sessions for over a period of a week, as well as one nighters. I do work part time (often 5 hours or less) on certain days of the week, so if I'm doing an overnight on a work day, I make sure they get a walk prior to my departure, and playtime/walk once I get back so they know they're loved. If your family member just needs a walk, or food, I do make sure to give them at least a bit of quality attention so they feel special. Dogs aren't just pets, so I don't treat them as pets. Your dog is as part of your family, so I'll treat them like mine.
